Me: a couple of my friends have recently picked up their Tarot decks again and so I am thinking about doing the same, but I don't even know what to ask.
Elizabeth: Would you consider doing readings for other people?
Me: Yes. Are you volunteering?
Elizabeth: *laughs* I know, that sounded like I was fishing, but actually not --
So, friends. Any interest?
Caveat that it has been awhile since I've done a reading and that I have mostly done readings for myself, some for Elizabeth, and one for
paperhearts -- but I'm a lot better at reading for people I know well.

[dragon age] Denne 1
May. 21st, 2014 02:34 amI started a new Dragon Age: Origins playthrough. My third playthrough is the city elf origin story, and I played a male character because I wanted to experiment with the shipping options for boys, but I don't particularly like my character at all, so, stalled. So I started a fourth playthrough, the noble dwarf origin story, which seems a lot more promising.
I am especially excited because it is a bonus!surprise!princess story. Denne is the second child of the dwarf king, and while the word "princess" is never used, that is what she is. A violent, impulsive warrior princess (because I really want unlock the warrior achievements -- my elf boy was also a warrior, which was the other reason I didn't love playing him -- I love fighting as a mage, and my beloved dwarf commoner ♥Nat♥ made me love playing as a rogue, but I just... I can't with warriors.
But Denne! She's pretty great. And her brothers frequently refer to her as "sibling" (mostly, one assumes, so they can use the same audio track regardless of the gender of the PC) and so I am aggressively headcanoning her as genderqueer, because genderqueer dwarfs/dwarves are extremely important to me.
We have made it to Ostagar, and we are mostly just waiting to recruit the dog so we can name it Mx Nug, because genderqueer prinesses with genderqueer animal companions are relevant to my interests.
(None of this is exactly the best and most noble use of my free time, but. it is called free time for a reason. It is the time no one is paying me for. /defensive)

[parfum] Les Bijoux by BPAL
Apr. 1st, 2014 02:59 amRose.
Wet: Green stem/leaf rose.
Then just rose. Much rose. Very rose. Aggressively rose. Rose? Rose!
Verdict: 12 hours of faithful rose.
I actually quite liked it. The morph from green stems to pink petals was actually more evolution than I usually notice in perfumes, and it was a faithful companion all evening at work. Really I probably enjoy things where I can identify a single scent more than complex scents that confuse me because I can't identify notes.
Lab description:
I was able to get a hint of honey underneath the rose if I smelled very, very carefully. The rest I'm afraid were completely lost.
Perhaps my skin amps rose? Although I can handle simpler rose blends. (I have tested Rose Cross once, to sleep, but will have to wear it again and pay more careful attention, since I think it will be a more complicated experience. And I adore Hymn.
Les Bijoux, though. Rose.

Mar. 28th, 2014 02:13 pmGreat big small box of bpal!
Bottle of Penitence.
12 imps I ordered.
4 frimps.
What to smell FIRST, friends?
Ok, first to sort out the frimps (free imps, which are delightful surprises).
One of them seems to be Blockbuster, which is a Twilight Alchemy Lab scent (the line intended for ritual use):
Which is fine, although not the ritual scent I would have chosen for myself at this moment in my life.
Also Mage from the RPG series, which I think was on my wishlist, Sheol, and Tamora.
OK THEN. What to smell first?
All right.
Miskatonic University.

Mar. 22nd, 2014 12:52 am[content notes: If you don't recall or never knew, my primary Veronica Mars feels are about shipping Keith/Veronica in a consensual, incestuous way. I've also never particularly cared for Logan/Veronica as a ship, or for Logan as a character, so there's that. (my feelings may or may not have softened on that, but the Marcest feels have not diminished. at all.) So there is a lot of unabashed cesty squealing. It comes at the end, after a few more general thoughts. This has been your warning.]
( a long time ago, we used to be friends.... )
Now that I have a literal cat in my life and I'm so far removed from current fandom of any kind, it feels even more absurd that cat anecdotes etc. go under flock/access and this sh-t is public, but that's the precedent, so... there it is.

Mar. 21st, 2014 03:22 pmI saw VMars! I will attempt a more detailed writeup later, although it will probably just be the following sentence repeated many more times, with some supporting details:
KEITH/VERONICA I SHIP THEM SO HARD OMGGGGGGG.
I'm having shippy feels! It's been a long time since I've had shippy feels. They are kind of fun, did you know that, guys & dolls & otherfolks?

[bpal] Pentitence
Mar. 14th, 2014 04:09 amI may have purchased 6 months of paid time on dreamwidth so I could upload a perfume icon and start using a perfume tag.
Under the cut, mostly for my records, all the perfumes I have tried to date
( pretties! )
My favorite by far of all the things I've smelled is Penitence by BPAL. In some ways because I am a person of simple tastes. Incense is one of my favorite scents because it makes me think of church, and especially of anointing oils. Penitence is described as "a blend of pure, pious frankincense and graceful myrrh," and it does what it says on the tin.
Most of the oils I've tried smell sweet to me. Good sweet, mostly. Some are foody sweet, some are just weird-sweet, and I think my nose interprets "musk" as sweetness, since Neutral is a "pure skin musk" and it smells incredibly and weirdly sweet to me.
Penitence is a little sweet and a lot spicy. It's intense, and distinct, and it was immediately a comfort smell for me. I have taken to wearing it most nights falling asleep -- which is probably the right time for it, since it doesn't last particularly long on my skin (sadness!) but while it lasts it's incredibly joyful and pleasing and comforting and delicious (though not in a foody way -- I don't want to eat my skin; I just want to inhale it.
My first BPAL order was 6 imps (sample vials), including this one, and this is the one I upgraded to a bottle in my second order.

reading Ash Wednesday
Mar. 5th, 2014 01:55 amFinished: Neverwhere
In the middle of: Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell.
(All the books in this latest iteration of me doing Reading Wednesday are rereads).
Next: Not sure. After devouring 2/3 of Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell while I was sick, my attention span has lapsed some, so I will probably be working at it for awhile.

I kinda want to read Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, but it gets all strange at the middle-end, and I kinda wanna read Cryptonomicon but I might have had enough of Stephenson just now. I really wanna read Anathem, but I don't own it. Neverwhere is too sad. I wish I could figure out a way to read Robin Hobb's Assassin trilogy without reading the Fitz bits (spoilers: they're first person in Fitz's pov), and I'd just read the second trilogy, except TOO SAD. I would read Circleverse, or Tortall, except I don't have all of either 'verse and the bits I have are kind of random. I have some miscellaneous cyberpunk that I've never read, but I've never read it so I don't know if it'll suck and I suspect it'll have not enough girls. I just reread all my Gail Carson Levine but I kind of want to read it again because after stealth-princess-story of Diamond Age, or, A Young Lady's Illustrated Primer I want proper princess story, but I JUST read them... The Parasol Protectorate is too silly for what I want (I know I know Ella Enchanted is not too silly but Parasol Protectorate is.)
I 'spose it could be Old Kingdom time, in preparation for Clariel coming out for realio truelio sometime this year‽
I have more books that I have room for. Why aren't any of them exactly what I wanna read?
(Also, I should not be reading any books right now, as it is almost an hour past my bedtime, but... I don't want to fall asleep without starting something new.)
Want things that are steampunkish or otherwise Regency/Georgian/Victorian aesthetic with girl heroes and lots of handwavy science/magical artifacts and very worldbuilding that don't get surreal halfway through that aren't too silly or too sad. And it's nice if they aren't entirely caught up in het romance. <-- is kind of asking for recs, but in a picky mood where nothing is exactly right except the imaginary version of the Primer that Nell has yet to create.

Just finished: Her Dark Materials. Ending still oh so frustrating. Cried many times (because ~feels~, not because frustration.)
Currently reading: The Diamond Age or A Young Lady's Illustrated Primer, which I have never actually finished. Hopefully this will be the time, as I've read over half of it in the past day, but I've gotten near the end before and then just kind of stalled. :/
&Nell!;
Next: Something else from my sf/f bookshelves, which are now all unpacked.

In honor of the day after Valentines Day, I watched "Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered."
And then Xander and Cordy lived happily ever after the end.
(gonna read for a bit, go to sleep for a bit after napping basically all evening, then hopefully have the energy to bake brownies for church tomorrow. my life so exciting.)

1. The cat is curled up in my lap (which does mean I am typing one-handed, but so precious).
2. Perfume package arrived! At some point I will make a bpal post.
3. Moved cat so I can have both hands, still have a cat nuzzlng my face.
4. FB added more gender options!
5. I have fresh-as-of-last-night bread for my sandwich for work, and am in the middle of making gingerbread, and I will make other things tonight.

Bible crossovers
Jan. 10th, 2014 07:13 pmBible crossovers for
mayhap.
1. Naomi ends up on Serenity, where I think her personality (planning/plotting to protect family) will mesh just fine. Kaylee ship ensues, because obvs.
2. Miriam, Shiphrah, Puah, the Egyptian princess, possibly Zipporah battle Goa'uld, defeat them, alter history.
3. Esther x America's Next Top Model fusion.
4. Rogue!transgirl!Jacob/Mage!Rachel/Warrior!Leah have RPG style adventures. (Not strictly speaking a crossover bunny, but you could fuse worldbuilding from favorite RPG mythology. Also I just made Jacob palatable to me -- because incestuous lesbian threesomes make everything more palatable y/y?)
5. Jael the Vampire Slayer.
6. Gossip Evangelist Luke blogs the glamorous lives of Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Susanna, Mary, Martha, Lazarus, Nicodemus, Simon the Pharisee, Joseph of Arimathea, Jesus of Nazareth, Simon Peter, Judas Iscariot, etc. in the Upper East Side.
Happy birthday, Mayhap! May your year be filled with improbable fanfic. :D
