Bridget Jones Cleans All The Things*
Jul. 7th, 2010 05:34 pmAck! Things need done! Apartment needs cleaned! Clothes need cleaned! Phone calls need made! CD from library must be found in the midst of disaster that is apartment/car!
Will do everything tonight! No, have meditation tonight and must get some sleep as have exciting possibly late night tomorrow. Will skip laundry for another night. Will just clean until 6 when I leave for meditation.
All right. First thing is they are powerwashing the sides of the buildings tomorrow so much get stuff off porch. Stuff off porch! Garbage put in garbage bag, chairs stacked precariously in shed!
All right, next thing.
Um.
Right then. I wonder what the internets say.
Oooh, must remember Dar concert is tomorrow! Must buy tickets, make plans with
mayhap!
Right then. Will run out to car and get GPS and charge it so can get to Dar without getting lost.
Mmm. Next thing.
Uh.
I wonder what the internets say!
Have concert tickets! Right then. Cleaning.
Have gotten all bags of garbage out to car. Have filled up one additional bag with obvious recycling.
Feel kind of dizzy. Did I eat today? I did. Ate fruit for breakfast, bagel + chicken + Naked Juice for lunch. That's protein and carbs. Still, feel dizzy. Will have to go grocery shopping after meditation. Drinking juice now.
Ugh, it is too ridiculous and hot outside.
Maybe I could go over to the library before meditation and return pile of books and get more Agatha Christie, since am on kick that nothing but Christie will fulfill. Also counts as cleaning, since removes massive pile of books from couch.
*PS that would be a great fanfic, yes/no?

[music] Cry Cry Cry
Nov. 12th, 2008 10:05 amCry Cry Cry is a folk trio consisting of Dar Williams, Richard Shindell, and Lucy Kaplansky. Their self-titled album consists of covers of songs by lesser-known artists.
Let's get right to the music, eh?
I Know What Kind of Love This Is by Nerissa Nields. The cover has vocals by Dar and Lucy and Richard on guitar.
I Have Come By Way of Sorrow written by Julie Mille. Lucy on lead vocals; Dar and Richard doing harmonies.
Memphis written by Cliff Eberhardt. Richard doing lead vocals, Dar and Lucy on backup.
So now you know what all three of them sound like and have a taste for Cry. YAY!
My very favorite song on Cry Cry Cry is "The Ballad of Mary Magdalene." On Cry, Dar sings it:
Ballad of Mary Magdalene. Dar cover.
The best thing about the Ballad is that it's written and was originally performed by Richard Shindell. My music is sadly discombobulated at the moment and I can't find you Richard singing "Ballad of Mary Magdalene" but it is the most awesome thing ever.
One of the things I love best about Richard is how totally he can inhabit female personae. If you can listen to this song without crying, you're a better person than I am:
Abeulita, from Richard's album Somewhere Near Paterson.
My Love Will Follow You also makes me want to cry.
Of course, there are constant inter-Cry collaborations. The folk scene is kind ofincestuous interconnected.
Frex, there's Lucy singing back-up on Are You Happy Now? (from Sparrow's Point).
Or Richard's cover of Dar's Calling the Moon.
And here's Dar singing Calling the Moon.
Oh, Dar. How do I introduce you to the wonder that is Dar Williams? I'm trying to be unbaised here, because Cry Cry Cry is the greatest trio in existence, but DAR. Okay. Completely random sampling of favorite songs:
Another Mystery (quotable Dar!)
All My Heroes Are Dead (early Dar!)
Southern California Wants to be Western New York (quirky Dar!)
Farewell to the Old Me (new Dar!)
When I Was a Boy (genderbendy Dar!)
Spring Street
The Christians and the Pagans (FAMOUS DAR. Possibly her most well-known song. The first one I heard [beginning an INSTANT LOVE AFFAIR]. So seasonally apropos!)
Okay. I'll restrain myself.
LUCY. <3<3
Oh hey, there are samples on her webpage. You know, for sampling purposes.
Guinevere with Richard on harmonies. (Also, genderbent!Lucy).
Cowboy Singer (more genderbendy!)
This is Home (aaaaaaand my guaranteed tearjerker Lucy song!)
Okay! That's a great start. I know you will love all three artists so much that you'll run out and by ALL THEIR CDs. :D
Dear Yuletide author,
Since this is especially for you... feel free to use these however feels right! Throw them up on a playlist and let them serve as background inspiration. Listen to them once, listen to them a thousand times, write an AU based on one of the songs (not that I'm suggesting "Ballad of Mary Magdalene" or anything), imagine a song is inspired by one of the other members of the Trio, use them as bases for characterization, create characters who are totally unlike the personae they sing as -- anything that sounds good to you! Or write one of my other requests and just enjoy the music!
love,
Ari

more song lyrics. such a sap
Nov. 16th, 2003 11:49 pmWell, I went outside and wandered for half an hour and I feel much better but no less productive. Well, on the contrary, very productive. Transcribed lyrics to "Iowa," which is my current favorite Dar Williams song.

Oct. 6th, 2003 05:56 pmrant number 706033 about the dining hall:
pretzels are not dinner!!!
I can't decide whether it's more imperative to my mental health that I take a nap or take a shower. Since I've already napped through all available nap times today, I'm thinking showering might be an option.
Okay. I'm going to take a very quick shower, then I'm going to try to write this fic that I was contemplating while falling asleep.
Then I'll go to tutoring, then I'll spend the remainder of my sentient hours studying for my scary class test.
And a survey from

New York, New York, that wonderful town!
Aug. 28th, 2003 06:45 pmI'm on Long Island for a few hours. I drove 2 hours of the 5 hour trip or so, then listened to my brand-new totally kick-ass Dar Williams CD. I <3 it, I really do. Squee.
So I'm listening to my mom's music and stuff. And trying not to cry at depressing lyrics, and my new favorite song is "The End of The Summer" by Dar Williams, which you should all go download, especially if you're going back to school or to school for the first time. Okay? okay.
lovelove, will write to you next from Virginia!
