Gender-neutral/genderqueer alternative to "Mister Chairman"/"Madam Chairperson"? I suppose it's "Mx. Chairperson"? I mean, in an ideal universe "Mx." is my preferred title. Pronounced "mix," not "mixter," which makes it sound less goofy formal than "Madam Chair." Which honestly I don't have a huge problem with, but if people notice that language is gendered and apologize for it, I want to reward that behavior.

And I've still never seen a proper gender-neutral equivalent of "sir" and "ma'am." (Related, because "ma'am" is a contraction of "madam.") I kind of like "mrrr," which is by coincidence the sound I make when trying to figure this out.

If I buy BtVS for $80 and FF for $20, will I actually write Jossverse fic again?

Quick Britglish question: What would Giles call this article of clothing? Wiki seems to be telling me "vest," but I'd like the flist's opinion.

ETA: Research on the internets confirms that said article of clothing is a "vest." For those who loved the USian one so much, Marks and Spencer, Paul Smith make vests. This is apparently a singlet (from behind). Sometimes disturbingly young-looking girls model vests and pants in the middle of a field.

Though clothiers seem more likely to call the object in question a "vest top" when it's meant as outerwear, but I think "vest" will be fine.

But Miss Selfridge makes vests and boobtubes, and I am cracking myself up trying to imagine Giles ever calling any article of clothing EVER a boobtube.

This is a camisole, but this is a vest, per Peacocks. But you cannot see the true AWESOME of that top without zooming in on the sparklies.

So... what do you think three sets of plain work robes (black) are made of? I'm having issues in that one probably can't use any Muggle synthetics, which lets out polyester and rayon, and since most apparel is a poly-cotton blend of some sort... I think silk or tafetta would be too dressy for work robes; denim is obviously out and... ack! Any guesses?

So, self, self's father, and self's sis are about as undomestic as you come. We're trying to make shortbread and, err... we mixed together sugar and flour and butter in a bowl and now it's all, er, extremely crumbly? This is not a mixture that I would call "dough" per se. I would call it more "bowl of crumbs that taste something like shortbread."

So. Suggestions on whether (a) this is normal for shortbread, durr, Ari, (b) how to make this into shortbread or (c) how to make it into something else. (Like could we, I dunno, add water or milk or something and make sugar cookies? I have NO IDEA.)
