[meme] indulge me
Jul. 31st, 2006 06:27 pmAsk me anything you want about any of my stories: how I thought of the idea, what I did to write it, what I was thinking when I wrote it, what I feel about it now, what I wish I'd done differently, etc. Or ask any of the characters from particular stories something you want to know, and get an answer from them. Or both.
(I am registering for fall classes. Have decided the sexuality course is right out; instead I am taking a lit-style class about representations of Jesus in various works of fiction. I am SO EXCITED. My bank account is not.)

Mar. 31st, 2006 04:10 pmMy
femslash06 fic, which is apparently due in 4 days (Who knew that April would get here so soon?!) is just over 500 words long. It's 100% PWP, beginning with one of the characters already naked. (True story: I had this particular sexact in my head as something I wanted to write but couldn't decide which of the 6 requested pairings I wanted to write it for. Oh, the decisions, the decisions!)
So now what? These are not characters are going to have climax, then 500 words of "was it good for you?" These are more characters who will have climax, then get away from each other as fast as humanly possible.
Ergh, stupid writing!
Also, NGIP.

[flail] on writing longfic
Feb. 25th, 2006 09:59 pmIn attempting to write the second chapter of Pinpricks I realize I've hit a brick wall, and it's a famililar wall; it's the same one I hit when trying to write a sequel to Akin to Revelation.
I'm really excellent at coming up with ideas (no comment on the quality of the ideas, just that there are ideas.) Like, "the HP series would be so much better with slashy spanking scenes sprinkled throughout." There's an idea. Or "The monks insert Dawn into the Firefly-verseso she can have sex with Kaylee." There's another idea.
So I write a story in my favorite most comfortable length: 1000-3000 words.
And then I stall.
And write some more words.
And then list all the themes! I go, "So, self, where are we right now? What's going on? What are the major themes we want to convey? What are the motifs? What are the character motivations? What do the major character arcs look like?" And then I come up with a list of answers.
And still have no idea how to proceed.
Because I'm less good (i.e., very bad) at making events happen, at progression, at, well, plotting.
With the first chapter/story/episode, I have this sheer burst of creative energy in which it's the first!, and things/characters/motifs/themes/arcs are introduced.
And then I think of everything else I want to write, but have no idea how to put it in order. I want everything to happen at once. My sense of pacing for longer works? Simply sucks.
The pacing in my NaNo novel?
Simply sucks.
Aaaaah! *throws hands in air, gives up*
Or, why am I blocked on chapter 2 of an epic PWP?
(Another, unrelated question: why do I always forget I have this icon? What icons do you always forget you have?)

thinking about writing
Jan. 28th, 2005 12:27 amHeader: I wrote a very long rant. No one asked me to, but I did anyhow. I should have been writing something else (a proposal for an art paper) but I wasn't. I wrote this instead. It is about:
1. Characterization on Buffy the Vampire Slayer
2. Characterization on Stargate: SG-1
3. My use of POV in fanfic
4. My use of tense in writing of various kinds.
It contains spoilers through mid-S7 Buffy and only vague spoilers for SG-1.
( writing, characters, and other such )
On some unrelated notes:
-
sage_theory wrote McWeir! Post-"Eye", rated G, find it here and be a good person and feedback. And then immediately after that, there is some Xander/Andrew. *dies* Needless to say, this made me a happy camper.
-Memes. First: The rant meme. ( rules, amended )
Second: the DVD commentary meme. I have never done a DVD commentary on a fic because no one has ever requested one, even though I've attempted to do this meme twice. It makes me sad, because there's nothing I like talking about more than my own writing. *is terrible like that* So if you want commentary on one of my fics, ask?
Now I really, really, really need to do my art paper.
