In attempting to write the second chapter of Pinpricks I realize I've hit a brick wall, and it's a famililar wall; it's the same one I hit when trying to write a sequel to Akin to Revelation.

I'm really excellent at coming up with ideas (no comment on the quality of the ideas, just that there are ideas.) Like, "the HP series would be so much better with slashy spanking scenes sprinkled throughout." There's an idea. Or "The monks insert Dawn into the Firefly-verse so she can have sex with Kaylee." There's another idea.

So I write a story in my favorite most comfortable length: 1000-3000 words.

And then I stall.

And write some more words.

And then list all the themes! I go, "So, self, where are we right now? What's going on? What are the major themes we want to convey? What are the motifs? What are the character motivations? What do the major character arcs look like?" And then I come up with a list of answers.

And still have no idea how to proceed.

Because I'm less good (i.e., very bad) at making events happen, at progression, at, well, plotting.

With the first chapter/story/episode, I have this sheer burst of creative energy in which it's the first!, and things/characters/motifs/themes/arcs are introduced.

And then I think of everything else I want to write, but have no idea how to put it in order. I want everything to happen at once. My sense of pacing for longer works? Simply sucks.

The pacing in my NaNo novel?

Simply sucks.

Aaaaah! *throws hands in air, gives up*

Or, why am I blocked on chapter 2 of an epic PWP?

(Another, unrelated question: why do I always forget I have this icon? What icons do you always forget you have?)
