some WsIP for your enjoyment
Aug. 10th, 2005 12:13 pmThings living in my Gmail inbox, most of which will probably never get finished... All of these are suitable for minors. For some of them, this is all there is, for others, I've just chosen a few paragraphs.
+Veronica Mars: Keith.
The hero is the one who stays.
At first he thought she was just talking about Lianne's leaving, his innocence, and thought no more of it. Veronica didn't understand her mother; he hoped she never would. When she'd befriended Lilly, he'd had a long talk with Lianne that didn't quite escalate to the point of screaming only because Veronica had been asleep. They'd danced around the truths they both knew.
"Are you sure we want her associating with that family?"
"They're good people, Keith."
"They're rich," he said. "Rich and up to no good. I don't like Veronica hanging out with that girl."
"She should see what they're like, then." Lianne's pleading had once been sweet and made him smile. Now it just annoyed.
"I think she sees enough of them at school."
But that was distant past. And the hero is the one who stays, and Keith had to admit, he wasn't the only one who'd stayed.
Veronica stayed. Never left his side, never stopped believing in him. Veronica was a hero,
+Stargate SG-1 + Atlantis: Daniel, Sam, Weir, McKay
"So you're saying...?" Daniel snuck a look at Sam; she was wearing the same bewildered expression.
"That I think you should take Dr. McKay with you on your next mission." Weir tapped the papers in front of her. "Simple reconnaissance, right? And goodness knows he can't be worse than the last replacement."
Daniel stole another glance at Sam -- if he didn't know better, he'd almost think she was suppressing a smirk. But she just said evenly, "Captain Richardson didn't exactly fit in with the... culture... of SG-1."
Daniel turned his attention back to Weir when she sighed audibly before slipping each of them a copy of the mission guidelines. "Just try," she told them.
"But Elizabeth --" Daniel tried the personal touch. "Dr. McKay has never been off-world, and uh, frankly, that's for a reason."
"Because he isn't military? Because he's scientist, who's always touching things he shouldn't? Because he's --"
"Obnoxious and arrogant?" Sam added, straight-faced.
+Stargate Atlantis: McKay/Weir
But then Rodney would come to her and would look more like a wildcat than a puppy dog and almost as if forgetting who she was, he'd say, "You need to authorize two teams to return to this planet and look at the tree rings. Not me. I have more important things to do. I'll write up my proposal."
Sometimes she wanted to tame him. Major Sheppard would look at him with blind disgust and look at her as if to say, why did we bring him along again? Less often now, as they all grew used to each other, but it still happened. She wanted to take his arrogance and his ill manners and grind them away, make him human, make him presentable, bring him back to earth as her husband and be proud of him.
But she *was* proud of him. And to humanize him was as impossible as reducing Teyla's alien-ness, and as awful. To make Rodney into someone he wasn't, when the person he was...
+Stargate: SG-1: Daniel, Sam, Paul Davis
"Daniel, your phone's ringing."
Daniel groaned. "I know."
Sam glanced down at the caller ID. "Why are you getting calls from the Pentagon?"
"Major Davis," Daniel said with a sigh. "He's been calling all morning."
"Maybe if you answered this call, he'd stop."
"Maybe if I don't, he'll give up," Daniel countered.
Sam picked up the phone herself and in her sweetest voice said, "Dr. Jackson's office, this is Dr. Carter speaking."
Daniel gestured at her frantically, but she just grinned and said, "Of course, Major Davis. Dr. Jackson would be delighted to talk to you."
Daniel's phone manner was never particularly good, as he had a tendency to try to multitask and usually had a hi-liter in one hand and whiteout in the other while he nestled the phone against his chin, but with Davis, his discourtesy was less courteous than usual. He barked responses to questions, sighed heavily, and used a monosyllabic vocabulary that stood in sharp contrast to his 800 verbal GRE and his PhD in linguistics.

+Stargate: SG-1: Sam + Daniel
The train jolts to a halt and interrupts Daniel's reading. He peers out the window and sees they've reached Washington DC. According to the schedule, that means it's nearly four. More passengers lurch onto the train, carrying bags and heavy parcels and pushing their trunks on funny carts. A woman who looks like a mother has one child in her arms and another tugging at her coat. Her third kid, a girl about Daniel's age, tags along behind her, but when the woman pushes through the door to the next car, the girl doesn't follow, but , looking around a little anxiously, tosses her backpack under Daniel's seat and sits next to him. She smiles. "Hey."
Daniel sticks out his hand instinctively before remembering that children don't shake hands, and she looks at him strangely as she takes it. "I'm Daniel," he says, and the girl grins again.
"Sam."
"That's a funny name for a girl."
"Short for Samantha."
"Why do they call you Sam?"
"I guess 'cos my dad wished I was a boy."
Daniel looks at her. "Ah." He searches for conversation; the girl with the boy's name is interesting and he wants to impress her.
+Jossverse RPS: Joss/Alexis
Joss Whedon put in a special appearance at the Angel Booster Bash tonight. He came as Alexis' date to the banquet this evening.
He was on all night. The leg was aching like crazy and half the fans were sending seething angry notes his way because of Dragon*Con (the hell. He hadn't, he really hadn't, had any idea he was expected. Really, no idea. But tomorrow they'll be saying that it's a purposeful conspiracy to keep them away from -- from him. Whatever he is to them. He'd kind of like it to be god of movie-making, but even he isn't that arrogant. Usually) and the other half sending embarrassing and rude suggestions about what they'd like to do with him after the dinner. But he was on. Hyper, high, making pronouncements, announcements, keeping the fans and Alexis entertained. Mostly Alexis, because he knows him best. Because making Alexis laugh has always been its own reward, so he keeps cracking jokes that no one but the two of them will get. "The British are well known for their character acting." "Wesley is pretty much good at falling down on the job." "Of course I don't love one crew more than another -- but the cast is a whole different kettle of chicken."
"Chicken?" Alexis said, right on cue.
"I forgot the punchline." Everyone at their table groans, and the sound carries outward. People he can't even see are mocking him, which is more than appropriate; that's essentially his job description nowadays.

+Stargate: SG-1: Sam/Daniel + Jack
"You're getting what?"
With Jack it's hard to tell whether he doesn't know what the word means, can't believe they're actually doing it, or just didn't hear them the first time.
"Married," Daniel says, enunciating as carefully as the ESL teacher he narrowly escaped becoming.
"To each other?" Again, it's increasingly difficult to tell if Jack is being sarcastic or just dense.
"Yes, Jack."
"Guess that absolutely rules out either of you coming up to the lake for a long weekend, huh?"
"That and our complete and utter lack of interest in fishing."
"What?"
Daniel sighs. He articulates carefully. "We don't enjoy fishing, Jack."
"Oh." Jack grunts. "You want me to come to the wedding?"
"It would be nice."
"Oh."
