[ETA 2007-08-26: all dates below are from 2003.]

This is me, absolutely and entirely not doing homework all afternoon. Instead, I charted the growth of my Stargate addiction.

January 10: ''Unnatural Selection" aired and I sort of watched it.

January 13: Current Music: SG1 ["Forever in a Day," don't remember watching]

January 15: Current Music: SG1 [probably on tape, 1 in the morning]

January 17: "Sight Unseen," sort of watched

January 18, very early morning Current Music: commercials on the SciFi channel ["Terra Firma," probably]

January 19, Current Music: Farscape [but no clue what it was. damn.]

January 22 Current Music: Farscape [ditto]

January 23: Current Music: Farscape

January 24: "Smoke & Mirrors" aired. I watched it, and Dad called, so I went out of room; when I came back in we rewound and watched the end. "Twice Shy" also aired. Watched tag for the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth times. [Current Music: sci-fi channel at almost 7 pm....]

January 27: Current Music: SG1 ["Shades of Grey"] I think I must have watched this, as I'm almost sure I saw SoG before spring break.

January 28: In LiveJournal "Back to running, dancing, climbing trees, finger-painting, and watching TV with my roommate. (-:" I also wrote to the female ministerperson, "There are no classes this Wednesday, so we're probably going to stay up late tonight. I'm trying to decide whether watching the TV shows my roommate is obsessed with is such a good idea, but my conclusion is that at least I'm watching with her, and it broadens the range of things that I can talk to her about. And I know from past experience that the risk of me becoming addicted to TV shows is exceedingly marginal. "]

January 30: In LiveJournal "We appear to have finished watching Farscape and are now watching Stargate. Prettiness, since I like Gate better than Scape anyhow." [Current Music: commercials on the Sci-Fi Channel] (probably Shades of Grey? Maybe Urgo?]

January 31: In Livejournal: "Watched Stargate" ("Paradise Lost")

February 1: Written to [livejournal.com profile] noreverchaste You're right; [[livejournal.com profile] gvambat] and I get along. And actually having someone in the same room most of the time, not to mention actually paying attention to me and sharing a sense of humor and tolerating my obsession, does go a long way towards not going insane.

February 1: In an unsent letter to Sumita:"I do not belong to the world of anime and sci-fi.... or do I?"

February 3: Current Music: sci-fi channel ["Nemesis"]

February 5: referred to a Sherlock Holmes story as an "ep" in LiveJournal, probably intended ironically, but was definitely beginning to think of life in terms of television shows.

February 7: Discussing pairings I supported with [livejournal.com profile] noreverchaste: "and, in a peripheral way, Jack/Daniel from Stargate SG1, mostly because [[livejournal.com profile] gvambat] is a rabid Jack/Daniel shipper." I also watched "Metamorphosis."

February 8: To [livejournal.com profile] noreverchaste, on Gvambat: "She has her sci-fi, I have my ministerpeople."

February ? [sometime between the fifth and the ninth]: first mention of "Jack/Daniel" in little notebook

February 10: Probably saw "Crossroads," but didn't remember it very well.

February 14: "Disclosure" aired and I watched it.

February ? [sometime between the twelfth and the twentieth] Wrote "Jack O'Neill," Colonel Jack O'Neill," "Dr. Daniel Jackson," and "Spacemonkey!" in notebook. Had presumably seen Serpent's Lair.

February 15: Talking to Sumita: I've been reading a lot lately, which I'm beginning to think is just as much mind-numbing as the internet... we have some sort of cultural expectation that academics and reading and writing are good and make you alive and mentally sharp while tv and computers, staring into the screen, are bad for you. But for me it seems like it's all one and the same. Email, letters, reading, surfing the web, talking online, whatever. It's not actually that nothing but church makes me happy... reading and sharing the funny bits with [[livejournal.com profile] gvambat], watching tv with [[livejournal.com profile] gvambat] once in awhile, things like that... in other words, [[livejournal.com profile] gvambat] makes life livable, in a non-obsessive way that's just having a companion.

February 15 redux: Downloaded "Wonderful World," my first Stargate SG-1 musicvid.

February 19: In LiveJournal: "We watched 4 episodes of SG1 last night: "Serpent's Song," "Exodus," "Enemies," and "Threshold." I'm fast becoming hopelessly ensnared."

February 20: Added Jack/Daniel webring to favorite's list.

February 21: In LiveJournal: "Collapsed relatively early last night. I'm rapidly becoming addicted to Gate: last night we saw "Enemy Within," "Thor's Hammer," "Singularity," and "A Matter of Time." Daniel rocks my gay girl socks. Michael Shanks is so pretty. And so is Richard Dean Anderson. *falls into swoon*"

February 21 redux: I downloaded two more music videos. I'd seen 2010 but not Need.

February 22: In LiveJournal: "Last night I talked to Laurie for an hour or so and my roommate showed me next week's episode of Stargate, "The Changeling" (It aired earlier in the UK, which is why she has it). SO. FRELLING. AWESOME.
Michael Shanks rocks my gay girl socks. They call him "the wonder that is Daniel" for a reason!"

February 22 redux: downloaded two more music videos.

February 25: Filled out a survey on LiveJournal:
0014. Why are you filling out this survey? I need something to do before I go watch Gate
0047. What is the last movie you saw? Children of the Gods, the pilot episode for Stargate SG1, which was actually a made-for-TV movie.
0059. TV show? Stargate. I'm a terrible person, amn't I?
0158. What are you going to do after this? watch Gate
0163. What is one of your dreams? Most of my dreams lately are about Gate...

February 26: Wrote to Sumita:
I've given my life entirely over to the Gods of Fandom. Last night we watched one episode of Stargate SG1 and two of Farscape... perhaps I should attempt to explain the most important points. Okay. 'Gate and 'Scape are both sci-fi series on the sci-fi channel. My roommate, who's a sci-fi junkie, is completely obsessed with both of them. The first half of this yearI spent trying to ignore them as best I could, and then, when everything went topsy-turvy with [livejournal.com profile] noreverchaste decided to give it a good faith effort and see if I couldn't get into these shows, after all. So I've entered the dark realm of the SG1 fandom.

And it was downhill from there. I'm not sure what to date as my official entry into addiction... I guess by February fifteenth, I was pretty hopelessly gone.

SQUEE! Z is coming over tonight and we're going to order food and watch stuff!!! I get to watch sci-fi with someone! Reading these old LJ entries and emails I've been really, really missing being Gvambat's roommate and the happy, squeeish feeling I got when I watched this stuff for the first time and... you know. So I think Z coming over is a really good idea and maybe I'll show her S7. We'll see what she wants to watch.
