[yuletide] 689 and counting!

So what do you make of these fandoms, which many many people are willing to write but no one's requested at all? Surely, with almost 50 people to write A Little Princess, one of them wants to write incest for me?

The most offered fandoms so far include Fairy Tales, Heroes, classical mythology, Sandman, Discworld.

By May sweeps, I don't think Heroes is going to count as a rare fandom anymore. In fact, given the action on the Heroes newsletter, I'm not sure it counts right now.

True enough. The Yuletide mods allowed all brand-new fandoms this year, though there was some discussion about excluding Heroes anyhow because of the obviousness of its growth. Now they're just begging asking politely that if you've made requests in some obviously popular fandoms, you might change them.

I'm so missing Yuletide this year. ~sigh~ It seems weird to view all this from the outside.

I'm shocked at all the people offering to write Winnie the Pooh. There was one Eeyore story last year that was AWESOME, truly everything fanfic should be and seldom is. Since there's no way I could match that story, there's no way I'd offer to write it and put myself up for comparisions. Ditto for people offering to write Ferris Bueller after that story "Skip" a couple of years ago.

One of the best things about Yuletide is that there's so few frame of references for these rare fandoms. With just a minimal amount of care, you have a good chance of writing the BEST THING EVAR in any good fandom. (Of course, I didn't achieve that in my one Yuletide story because I got a fandom that a) wasn't really all that rare and b) a prompt that missed the spirit of the show entirely for me, but the principle still holds.) This is why I keep crossing my fingers to receive one of my ultra-rare offerings.
