From Stacey's Lie (or, Who Does Stacey Love More: Claudia or Robert? with a side of Vanessa/Haley, mini!OTP):

"I'm going to show you all how to make lanyards today," Laura was saying. She set big spools of different colored plastic cord on the table. She also put out a cardboard box of tin whistles to put on the ends of the braided cords when they were done. "Have a counselor help you cut four strands in whatever colors you want," Laura instructed the kids. "They should all be about three yards long. When everybody's all set, I'll show you how to braid them together. -- 62

!!!

That's an awfully big keychain, right there! I mean, going through eighth grade seven times, that's one thing. But making keychains out of nine feet of craft lace, that's just unreasonable to my mind!

ETA: Okay, so perhaps I'm wrong. It still seems like an awful lot of craft lace, though. I'm just sayin'. And hopefully going to bed and to SLEEP soon. *sigh*

Are they making keychains? When I picture a lanyard, I picture something that hangs around my neck?

...neck. Obviously one thing I don't picture is me proofreading my comments before posting.

!!! Crikey! I read that as FEET at first. Maybe that's what they meant...

But three YARDS??

*images of many children entangled in yards and yards of lace fill brain.*

Wow. That's quite... humerous, actually!

Hee! They're those insanely braided-knotted-together things, aren't they? Maybe those are like knitting -- you need, like, four feet of yarn to knit a one-foot row.

~thinks~ That's still a lot of keychain.

Also, Stacey loves Claudia best omg.

well when you consider that you double it over (i believe) and that it hangs around your neck that's not toooooooo long.

That doesn't seem wrong to me, especially if they're making the lanyards that are worn around the neck. The thicker the lanyard is, as well, the more lace you need. *shrugs* A couple of 8+ strand lanyards I've made took quite a bit of lace. Don't rememeber how much exactly, but it was at least two yards.

Out of curiosity, because I remembered having really, really long pieces of craft lace to deal with at Scout camp, I googled.

The directions I found (first link--I didn't check others) suggested 3-1/2 yard lengths of craft lace for a lanyard, and 4-foot lengths for a mini-lanyard keychain.

That's why I Googled--I remembered really frightening amounts of craft lace at Scout camp, and wasn't sure if they just seemed so long because I was only four feet tall, or what.
