(In case you're wondering, the thing I'm procrastinating on is writing a sermon. I'm preaching and presiding at worship this coming Sunday; I've preached and led services plenty o'times but just realized I've never presided over Communion. That's kind of exciting.)

My immediate thought was how bizarre it is that *I've* done that given all the church stuff you've done that I haven't, but I suppose co-celebrating isn't exactly the same as "presiding over."

Yeah, I did once co-celebrate with my mom. It was kind of awkward because I was preaching/leading the service but didn't/don't have Magic Jesus Hands (tm you), but it worked out that Mom was lay reader and so just came down to the Table with me and I did the non-magic parts and she did the magic parts and it was less awkward than it would have been otherwise.

We're Baptists. Not Southern Baptists, but still Baptists. And we're Chinese Christians with Chinese Christian traditions that have no real doctrinal basis, but we follow them anyway.

I will consider it a victory if/when we can get our female pastor ordained. There's precedent at one of our daughter churches, but there's still resistence at our church.

Technically (in the ELCA) when there's no ordained pastor, the entire congregation is supposed to bless the elements by saying the Words of Institution, but Rev. S said I could do it however I wanted -- have the whole congregation say them or just say them myself. I actually like the theology of having the whole congregation do it better, but I'm also kind of... you know, I can preside over communion. Like a rockstar.

:) Last week, when I helped Laura Ruth lead service, she told me that she wanted to do Communion by herself, that it had nothing to do with me and was just something she felt she needed to do for her self-confidence.

I've never presided over Communion. That's kind of exciting.

It's wonderful! Presiding at the table is the most amazing feeling. I almost burst into tears the first time I did it - I don't usually feel like crying anymore but I do feel filled with light.
