Notes: First of the kinklets, for tresa_cho, who requested aquaphilia. It was probably not strictly necessary to give this a full post and header, but I'm pretending I've written more than two fics this year.
Summary: Jack finally has Daniel exactly where he wants him. Somehow, it doesn't help.

Boys at Swim

"You're really not swimming."

"Daniel. You've seen the lake. You've seen the things that live in the lake. You've eaten the things that live in the lake. I don't know why you want to join them."

"I've been eaten by things living in that lake," Daniel added helpfully.

"Well. If you want to be that way about it, mosquitoes don't live in the lake technically."

"My point is you do eat things that live in the lake, you drink the lakewater --"

"Daniel?"

"Jack?"

"Have you been drinking the lakewater?"

"What was I supposed to drink?"

"I usually go with beer, personally."

"I don't like beer. Especially your beer."

"Yeah, well." Jack gestured vaguely toward the lake. "I just don't think you should drink that anymore."

"You brought me here to drink beer and to fish, right?"

"And to get away from the mountain."

"Jack, I don't fish, I hate your beer, and I like my job."

"Right."

"The only things I like about water are drinking it and swimming in it, and..."

"And if you don't have a death wish, I'd advise against both in this instance of water."

"Why exactly did you think being here was a good idea?"

"I thought maybe if I got you out here, you'd shut up long enough for me to kiss you."

"Oh." Daniel blinked. "Has it worked?"

"Not so far."

"Ah. Well."

"You know, if you boil the water, you can make coffee from it."

"And boiling should kill all the, er, life forms."

"Should." Jack shrugged. "It hasn't killed me yet."

"Half a dozen system lords haven't killed you yet, Jack."

"I try not to let the invincibility go to my head."

"Do you let your romantic prowess go to your head?"

"Should I?"

"We've been here nearly three days and you haven't kissed me."

"In other words...?"

"No."

Jack rolled his eyes. "Daniel. Do you want me to kiss you?"

"No."

"Well."

"I want to kiss you."

"Now?"

"Now."

"I'm ready," said Jack, not quite pursing his lips.

"Get in the lake first."

"Excuse me?"

"I want to kiss you in the lake."

"Is this some sort of fetish we need to talk about?"

"It's more like... oh, never mind."

"No, go ahead. This I need to hear."

"You've been trying to get me up here for years."

"To fish, Daniel."

"So now we're here."

"Now we're here..."

"And we're getting in the lake and we're going to kiss and then..."

"Good plan so far."

"Then I'm going fishing," Daniel said.

And Jack dove.

I dunno. While "fishing as metaphor" has always been a fannish interest, it's hard to imagine fic about "purple plastic watches" that doesn't go something like

For her twenty-first birthday Ari's Willow's girlfriend Gvambat Tara bought her three purple plastic watches, and then she always knew what time it was.

At least until the watches broke. Then Gvambat Tara fixed them by physics magic.
