Could someone explain to me why, whenever the spoiler-debate emerges, pro-spoiler/anti-anti-spoiler people emerge who feel compelled to divulge common or serious spoilers -- the contents of Soylent Green, the climax of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the twist in The Crying Game, etc. -- without warning or context? It seems to me needlessly antagonistic and inconsiderate.

Unless you've managed to remain innocent about Fight Club, The Crying Game, The Sixth Sense several of Shakespeare's plays, HP book 6, etc. Though there are legitimate reasons for the discussion of The Crying Game and its twist, many comments simply contain gratuitous spoilers.]

That seems ridiculous. Haven't things like "Soylent Green is people!" passed into broader culture? That and things like "Luke, I am your father!" aren't even spoilers anymore, they're punchlines.

I spent about five minutes wondering frantically, "What's the spoiler from HP Book 5? Did I forget something really important that was supposed to be a twist?" So perhaps I'm not the person to discuss this important matter with.

I might be overly pc in some ways but it's damn annoying to be on the receiving end. There was some major spoiler from a Star Wars film (original trilogy) that I was unaware of because somehow I've never managed to see the end of it and I was bummed when someone randomly mentioned it in conversation and blew it off as but everyone knows. Well, I didn't. X(
