It's a strap used for sharpening razors. I'd always assumed it was some sort of strap with razors ON it, but in fact, it's not. It's basically just a strap of leather with a metal loop on the end.
Oh, I was feeling special — don't doubt it for a second. That aldalindil (or anyone else, for that matter) would recc me makes me feel special enough, as it is. But I was thinking of all those poor kiddies who had been whipped with razor straps back in the day and — unlike my Lupin — do find them rather frightening. ;-)
And I'd really like to work on that happy ending, but ... I'll see what I can do. It may take me six months to read OotP. *blushes*
