smoothiepost: apple pie smoothie
(Hey, there is a reason my journal is subtitled daft obsessions des jours)
I used:
+Hood vanilla ice cream
+Mott's natural apple sauce (the kind without sugar added)
+several ice cubes
+a handful of Honey Bunches of Oats.
Then when I realized the smoothie had no liquid content whatsoever I added
+skim milk
I sprinkled cinnamon on top; I think if I made it again I'd blend the cinnamon with the rest.
This was a v. high concept smoothie for me and I have mixed feelings about the results. It tasted v. good, but much too sweet for my taste; I think a solution could be to use a less sugary cereal or possibly plain yogurt instead of some of the ice cream, but that would cause it to lose some of the essential apple pie quality. (Then again, I have mixed feelings about apple pie, too, for much the same reason.) Anyhow, it also came out undrinkable on account of the weird textures. The apple sauce gave it a tapioca-like-texture that wasn't that bad, but the little bits of cereal kept sticking in the straw and even with some milk, it wasn't really liquidy enough.
(The cereal-in-smoothie concept, by the way, is from Kraft's Food and Family magazine. Credit where credit's due.)
It was a fun experiment, but I don't think I'll make this one again.
I need a blender icon. Anyone?
[Edited to correctly attribute the cereal-in-smoothies idea]

Hope you enjoy. The quote comes from Enemy of the State where the lead character says, "Some people do yoga, some people meditate...me - I blend."
I did it two different ways, so you can pick the one you like! :)
