Watching WW 5x04, "Han." Or, to use its BSC name, "CJ's Hair WHAT?"
I mean, I could see from the cover of the case that this happened, but it happened overnight. I thought I'd missed an episode or something! I just... WHAT.
I will now state for the record that I am not a fan of the S5!CJ!hair, the layered look or whatever. It looks, like, uncombed. I just. *sigh* Maybe it'll get better though!
On the other hand, if you ask me when I started questioning whether I'd like S5, this is the point. The first three episodes, they weren't Sorkin, but they weren't bad. This... was screwball. Since when is tWW screwball? I mean... Toby andJeremy Will accidentally giving the wrong speech to the tech guys. I mean Josh using the economy as a metaphor for his relationship with Amy. I mean Donna and the President agreeing on the economy. Not that there's anything wrong with any of these things? But just... screwball. What?
I was almost certain CJ was going to resign.
[I think I have some pretty major spoilers about the way the staff gets reorg'd at some point, and definitely, the groundwork is being laid for that, Toby wanting a more active role in shaping policy, CJ clearly deeply unhappy with the current administration... God, CJ. She looks so tired and stressed and lonely and lost, and I know it's true, and I just.]
Maybe it will get better, and CJ will smile again.
And then, "Constituency of One."
Which is possibly the most depressing episode of West Wing ever. It's the Curse of S4, a year late -- everyone's disillusioned and jaded and cynical and sad and CJ cries in Leo's office and Leo isn't making any sense to me and Josh is running scared and Amy...
Dude, I really like Amy. I don't know why this episode sold me on her, but "I wasn't made to serve at anyone's beck and call" and "I serve a constituency of one, too, and that one is me" and... and also, the dead fish.
And Josh got a surprise party. And was completely, completely not happy about it.
And Will going to work for the VP and and and can CJ please, please, please smile again sometime soon? *sad*
And then "Disaster Relief"
My god, it's like, I don't know, morphine. It's horribly depressing like BtVS S6 and it's all about these terribly bitter, lonely, alienated people who are sad all the time and CJ cried again and Josh is practically out of a job and they aren't smiling. But it's not that that's got me; it's the loneliness of it. Because they're my team, you know? And I love them to death and whatever happened to OT4?
(But Sam called Josh to make sure he was doing okay, because their love is SO PURE AND GAY.)
(Oh, and sometime in this group of episodes, Josh's intern hit on CJ and she's like, "You're all short!" And I was like, why wasn't the internmy mary sue a girl? Sigh.)
And CJ lived with a guy for six months. "That was like a romantic comedy in fifteen seconds." Oh, Toby.
"'Hope' -- what's that?" Oh, Josh.
*sigh*
I'm coming to terms with The Hair. (Sort of. But I think S4 hair will always be my favorite.)
