Pretend for a minute that the only contact you have ever had with me is through my fic. We've never exchanged LJ comments or emails, never hung out in chat or on AIM, never talked on the phone or met each other in person, none of that stuff. The only thing you know about me is the kind of fiction I write.

What kind of person would you think I am? How would you describe my attitudes and opinions about real-life issues? Or, to use the rephrased question:

Based on the way I write my characters, and the way they speak, think, and behave, what would that say to you about my attitudes and opinions about real-life issues?

I haven't been answering this for any of you because... I suck? And know most of you as *you* better than as your fic. (It's also one of those memes were we're all dying to know the answer but very few people are actually *giving* answers.) But let's give it a whirl, anywho.

Tonight: VMars, a Dawn and the We ♥ Kids Club post, trying to write fic, and mainlining West Wing.

There is so much gleee! in my personal life I think my brain is going to explode.

I agree with your reasons and add: It's hard to keep someone's oeuvre in one's head (esp. since it's derivative fic, so so much of what we take from/bring to the fic came from someone else) and many of us haven't read scads by any given person -- or we have done so spread out over time, which brings us back to my first item.

Considering I first met you through your fiction, I actually do feel comfortable answering this. I thought you were intelligent, thoughtful, and slightly insane in the good way.

It's a really hard question to answer, isn't it? I don't think I could really answer it for anyone I know from LJ, unless maybe I spent some time rereading their fic and taking notes. And even then, I'd have a hard time separating out all the things that I actually did know about them.
