[Poll #548512]

My answer is fun. And I am hereby handing in all my cool cred and sitting in a cave. (Though that may have happened in eighth grade...)

English teacher: What's wrong with this sentence?
Ari: Oh, you need a singular pronoun, since everyone is singular.
English teacher: Uh, yeah. How'd you know that?
Ari: I read a grammar book.
English teacher:... for fun?
Ari:... yeah.

[eta after 11 votes: omg, wtf is wrong with you guys! I knew my flist was dorky, but this is just ridiculous. *unfriends* /invisible sarcasm font]

[eta again at around 50 votes: why are none of my friends normal? *wails*

I refuse to pick. I find actually learning grammar boring, but i'm kinda fanatical about the rules that i do know (which is most of them), so i click the imaginary "important!" radio button.

I totally loved analyzing sentence graphically. You had to indicate what part of speech everything was by putting little squiggly things under the words. Do they even do that now? I can't find a reference to in on line?

I wish I knew how to diagram really complicated sentences, not just the relatively simple sentences I learned to diagram in 6th grade. My grammar would be so much better.

I picked 'fun' because you didn't have a ticky place for 'interesting.' I'm fascinated with grammar and how much the use of it can give a phrase or a sentence a totally different meaning.

Also I'm fascinated with grammar because I prefer to use it correctly.

Grammar equals fun. Though I find learning grammar inside a classroom less exciting, especially if taught by an even more boring teacher. I like learning, just if the learning is fun and interesting.

Hee! That conversation between you and your English teacher is almost similar to something that happened to me some time ago in my senior year. After answering correctly to a historical question, some guy came up to me after class and asked me how I knew the answer.

Me: I read it in a book.
Guy: Hold up. You mean, you actually read? For fun!?
Me: ....Yeah.

I really shouldn't have expected a different answer though, considering most of the people I went to high school with hardly found reading a productive thing to do with their spare time.

can't do it, my friend; you didn't put "fun to entirely poetically disregard."

Ari, you rock! Grammar is enormously fun. I am the world's biggest dork, and I love grammar. Have you ever learned transitional grammar? Oooohhhh... so much more fun than diagramming sentences (which I also enjoy). I am a complete dork.
