That was... really incredibly good. It's fun to watch the whole series, or to watch arcs, but it's really fun to watch just one episode that turns out to be so pivotal and to establish and destroy so much - my heart breaks for all of them. For Faith, who's struggling free from the grip of grief and can't go anywhere but down. For Willow, who has issues with sharing her people, for Xander, who's just so quietly demolished in this episode, who clenches and unclenches his fists and doesn't make a single joke that doesn't fall flat. My heart breaks for Giles, who loves Buffy so much. For Joyce, who loves Buffy and can't - and can't know what's going on. Who's always on the outside and oh, Joyce. And for Wesley, who wants to help, and is left alone in the library, because he tried to do the right thing, and failed, and will carry that forever and ever. It's "Loyalty." It's his doom.
And I love the fear and trust and love between Giles and Buffy.
And I love that Buffy is still fighting for Faith. Love how they mirror each other darkly, how each thinks and wants and knows she can make the other like herself.
And Angel, calling Wesley "the new Watcher. "First you terrorize her, then you let her go."
And five and a half years from now, they'll share a look before they go to die and aaaaah! *breaks*
I love Buffy and Willow being awkward, trying terribly hard to confide in each other, love that Buffy finally does tell Willow first, and then, "You need to go to Giles." Because he'll know what to do. Because for both of them, still, Giles does have all the answers.
When the core four sit in the classroom, hiding from Wesley and from Faith and talking - that's just - that's such a perfectly uncomfortable core four moment. The other three find out Xander slept with Faith, and Buffy's oh and Giles's and then Willow's, "I don't need to say oh. I got it before." And Buffy tells Xander that it probably didn't mean anything to Faith, and oh, I love how Giles immediately thinks of something Xander can do to help. OomTP*!
Giles pouring coffee for Buffy at the very end of the episode, and telling her that with Buffy on her side, there's hope for Faith.... *oh* they so break my heart.
Another thing, for a pairing that's not even one of mine - when they're all beating up on Wesley for letting Faith go, and Giles just stills Buffy with a word, like, "Don't. It's okay. He messed up but we'll deal with it later." I loved that. And I'm not a Giles/Wesley shipperyet.
And of course Angel and Faith.
I love the Angel-Wesley-Faith triad and it's so great to watch the beginning over again knowing all the places the three of them will go together, how they're all in some ways so similar and how that causes such friction among them, and how at their best, they can redeem each other, because they know each other. Especially the Angel-Faith and the Wesley-Faith in Angel, since the Angel-Wesley is terribly more complicated than the redemption arcs, but the S4!Wesley-Faith does happen around Angelus which - *gah*. It's all so good.
End deep.
Begin shallow!
Buffy's hair = not liking so much!
Faith = totally totally hot. And I love her dimple. *squee!*
Willow's overalls = adorable
Giles = *melts*
Joyce = so pretty! *squeal*
Faith = did we mention the hot?
*one of many true pairings. :)

Also, every interaction - every single one - between Angel and Wes gets me for some reason. Even the BtVS ones. So I was glad to see I'm not the only one :)
And of course Faith's dimples are the cutest things ever. :)

Date: 2006-01-22 05:49 pm (UTC)Yay Faith/Buffy! This episode just reminded me all over again how boring femslash is, especially with those two girls...
Going back and watching "Bad Girls" and "Consequences" after seeing AtS... the Angel-Wes takes on a whole new light. *squeal*

Date: 2006-01-22 10:41 am (UTC)I love these characters, especially those who were in both shows. So much evolving, with Wes, Angel and Faith. All the pain and angst but it's SO GOOD!
