initial thoughts: Sports Night

Spoilers for - the pilot. S4 of West Wing


What I knew going into this: it's about a team of sportscaster, it's a half hour show, Dan/Casey is fandom's OTP, and mireille719 suggested that I would be inspired to write femslash.

And seriously, I don't know what she was talking about. Because the only girls I saw were the slightly bitter very alpha heart-of-gold producer(?) (Dana) and the bouncy chipper idealistic caffeine-high something or other (Natalie.) And seriously, it's not like both those characters hit particular character!kinks of mine and like the two of them together would in any way resemble my favorite kind of OTP. Nope.

I'm so crazy about Jeremy! I'm not terribly fond of Will, because of the whole replacing-Sam factor, but the comically misfitting overly-eager new guy just works for Joshua Malina. I heart him. And Jeremy/Natalie is going to be cute, isn't it? I'm going to really like it because of the geeks-in-love factor. I've only seen like, two seconds of Natalie but I already really really like her. Kaylee kinds of liking. (Kaylee/Natalie? So going on the get-Kaylee-laid list.)

Dan and Casey - yeah. I am a) having trouble telling them apart and b) underwhelmed but not surprised. I wasn't really expecting to like them, since I am currently incapable of picking popular pairings, and they're just, oh, hum, hoyay! I'll probably enjoy them more later, and I did think that Casey's relationship with his son Charlie (why do all the source-of-angst sons need to be named Charlie? Is this a thing?) was sweet.

I'm enjoying the Sorkinian dialogue like whoa.

Will possibly take another hit watch another episode before bed.

Will need to make an icon, as soon as I start 'capping!

That's what I thought. *g* Eeee! (I can't write Dana/Natalie. I've tried. I just can't do it, for some reason, but I enjoy the results when someone else does.)

Jeremy/Natalie is, IMHO, so cute it hurts. And I love Natalie. She is (you will learn) completely and totally insane in so many ways, some of which are better than others, but oh, I love her so much. (Sports Night--yet another show where I adore everyone.)

Dana's the producer and Natalie's the associate producer. I think. And Natalie/Dana is my Sorkinverse femslash OTP. *g* Although I also really like Jeremy/Natalie. And IMO you can't even compare Jeremy Goodwin to Will Bailey - the former is light-years better than the latter as a character.

I've been mainlining Sports Night over the past few days, because it makes good background noise for frying latkes. The most wonderful thing about this show is it's still great (and funny) the tenth time around.

I don't get the Dana/Natalie thing -- they strike me as being just friends. But I totally feel the Natalie love. On this watching, I'm noticing how Kaylee-like she is, and how adorable, and... let's just say that if there were Natalie/Kaylee crossovers, you'd have at least one reader.

Dan and Casey become more distinct as the show goes on. Also, their love for one another becomes more apparent. Also, Dan gets cuter and Casey's head gets squarer.

If you cap, would you be willing to share? I need icons like whoa.

Sports Night! How I LOVE Sports Night! Personally, I never got into the whole Dana/Natalie thing. Sure, they are pretty together, but I'm a total Jeremy/Natalie shipper. Though sometimes I'm sure that Dana and Natalie have this lunch break thing going, where they have sex in the office in a total ungay girlfriend sort of way: let's eat our salads and then have sex, because we don't have time for a work out. Sort of. It makes sense in my head.

I LOVE Dan/Casey, but I had to read the fic before I really saw it. They have chemistry onscreen, butit doesn't strike me as a very sexual chemistry. Totally works in the fic, though. i'm ashamed to say that I have almost no Sports Nights recs at oceanas_recs. I will have to work on that. So long, I suggest you go to the ever fabulous Polyamorous Recs (http://bifictionalbedlam.slashcity.net/recs/index.html) where you'll find many lovely SN recs.

My personal advice: watch the whole series first, so you don't get spoiled. Have fun! (and you will, oh, you will. Such a great show!)
