[spoilers through the end of S1 and slighly for the beginning of S2. Incest, though mostly Lilly/Duncan in this post.]

I always forget this is the homecoming episode (possibly because unlike the BtVS homecoming ep, this one isn't called "Homecoming.") I really like the homecoming arc. I really don't like the Veronica Defeats the Geeks With The Power of Her Miiiind arc, but hey. At least Wallace's never-to-be-seen-again girl pal is not Jackie. She's really sweet and awww, Wallace with a crush is adorable. :)

Geeks are of course clearly evil and we should never leave them alone in a dorm room, ever.

V. dresses up in some awesome outfits in this episode. I adore "nerd-hag" Veronica best, with the hair in a bun and the fifties school ma'am look, but anime!Veronica is also awesome, and little short red dresses? Never a bad thing. Oh! Thought! This is the episode with the homecoming flashbacks and Lilly telling Veroinca that she's not a yellow cotton kind of gal; she's all strapless red satin? And that's interesting; people more fashion-wise than me have pointed out the meanings of Veronica's outfits, but broadly, V. in this episode keeps on submerging her identity, playing all these roles, and this relates to the role she plays in the flashbacks where she's all... quiet. Man, this year sucked for Veronica, but it made her a much cooler person.

Being human, I adore the flashbacks of the foursome like crazy. They're so my OT4, all gooshy and smushy and drunken and sexy, all touching and drinking and staggering and visceral, all half-confidences... this is a night I never had in high school, and wouldn't enjoy all that much -- Ari does not like alcohol not ONE LITTLE BIT -- but the image of them all so happy and innocent in their own ways... just the images. With the Lilly-music-vid, this is all about images, etc, and I love them -- Duncan and Logan wrestling, Lilly leaping across her bedroom and collapsing onto the bed, "you wanted Lilly; you got her," and so forth.

And I am glad I bought the DVDs if only for the fact that I got to see the reaction shots of everyone to the actual musicvid, which I couldn't see at all in squinty. So fabulous, especially Jake (new favorite minor character!) sobbing and Duncan comforting him, while Celeste is shocked and horrified because this is the real Lilly and not whatever crackful version she likes to pretend existed, and Weevil crying. God, Weevil. Weevil. He loved her so much. It's fabulous.

And Veronica is happy. Nostalgic, but happy. Because this was her Lilly, and this was truth. Truth means a lot to Veronica; I sometimes think she'd be perfectly happy if she had perfect knowledge, since that what she quests for over and over again. God I love Veronica...

On a Logan/Veronica note, I like the tentative way they bond here over shared memories of a crazy and much beloved girl... I'm a little bit confused at Logan's random ability to make musicvids, but he does an awesome job and the honesty is great.

Meanwhile, in flashback land, I love all the pairings and combos, from the girl-on-girl action to Veronica curled up on Duncan's lap, exhausted and happy from the fabulous dream-rich night. There's also the incredibly amusing "you are so cool" response to Duncan's virginity. Cuz, dude.

I have this weird reaction to Lilly. I... listening to her sounds like listening to myself talking on tape? Sort of unreal, sort of like she's trying to hard to perform. It's strange. I love Lilly but am most decidedly glad that the show isn't about her.

Which is this great thing, when Logan's talking about the video he's making and says, "It's not about Lilly," with the implication being it's all about Celeste's crazy fantasy? And I realized that the show itself is not-about-Lilly in that sense. In some ways it is all about this girl who died and the reactions of the people who loved her and their struggle to make sense of what happened to her, but that's not really about her. It revolves around her but does not concern her.

And dude, Veronica going skinny-dipping puts a huge grin on my face, every damn time.

Okay, I'm out of thoughts and I'm tired and fretful and feeling grr stupid. *frets*

I was just watching this too! If I were trying to give someone a good overview of the first season, I would point out that this episode is *really* important, because it makes you (general you) love, or at least like, Lilly, and that's so vital, because otherwise she only matters because Veronica cared about her.

Yeah, this is one of my favorites. Weevil crying at the end always gets me.
