they fight crime (in space!)
Nov. 22nd, 2005 08:00 pmSo last night while I was straightening the cotton wall at work, it occured to me that we do this thing where we get one idea of what a TV show is in our head, and then when the show veers away from that, we think it's the fault of the show rather than our perception of the show. Rather than be mean and use examples I have seen elsewhere in fandom, I'll use examples from inside my own brain.
1. In my universe, the tagline for Veronica Mars would be, "The dashing Mr. and Ms. Mars -- together, they fight crime."
2. Stargate: SG-1 would be the twincestuous adventures of denim-clad Daniel and Sam -- in space!
Those are pretty straight-forward enough, I think. So, like, if, god forbid, something happened to make Vernonica Mars less about the daddy-daughter duo and more about the Logan Echolls make-out sessions, I'd be sad. And obviously the truth is that shows are going to be about lots of characters and relationships, and it can't always be Keith week anymore than it can always be Logan week.
But the question to ponder in the half-hour beforeCuddy's Boobs: Together, They Fight Crime House MD, I ask you what your own personal taglines are for your favorite shows?

I was thinking that the ideal fannish gift exchange would go something like this:
Ari: *sends Crytonomicon to someone on flist*
Flister: *writes Alan/Lawrence fic for Ari and sends her BSG S1 on CD*
Ari: *squeals and writes Lee/Kara fic for flister*
Flister: *squeals too*
