yaynewcanon!
So! New canon ahoy. I was somewhat disappointed by the beginning of this episode. The drug-test B-plot totally failed to enthrall, and the point at which we got the whiteboard and the "oh wow, those names all match!" I was pretty much ready to call it quits. But I persevered, and hey! We got the commercial break of "Duncan is her boyfriend now." I have something to say about this:
I like Duncan/Veronica a lot more than I like Logan/Veronica and the reason is pretty much a reaction against fandom's love of Logan/Veronica. I also, well... I like Duncan better, period. The thing that Logan does that's put fandom under his spell? Not so much working on me. So I am very glad that Veronica showed the backbone to break up with Logan when, well, when she realized that she couldn't change him after all. And Duncan! With the fortune cookie! Awww.
Meanwhile, the characterization of Veronica was hurting. I love Veronica! I want her back. I was feeling, with Weevil and with Wallace, that she'd gone normal on me and sold out to the 09ers and that was not of the cool. I really liked that Wallace was noticing that and... and cared? Because I find that Wallace is the person who loves her for who she is, for exactly who she really is, who can see through all her subterfuge and find the Veronica Mars at her core. And he loves her.
So! Dick and Beaver made opening credits. *amused*
Unless I'm very much mistaken, the entire point of Charisma Carpenter parading around in a swimsuit was... to have Charisma Carpenter parading around in a swimsuit? Not that I'm complaining, but waste of talent much? Though Logan/Cordy (and I will be calling her Cordy through the entirety of her guest spot, so get used to it) is pretty, at least.
Keith+Veronica made me squee like a squeeing thing, but then, no one is surprised by this. Yay cuddling! *demands screencaps* And it made me grin like a fool when he went all alpha on Logan's ass. Because I am obsessed.
Oooh, so, Lilly saved Veronica's life! <3<3<3 And Weevil! Weeeevil. I really adored that final scene at the gas station. I loved that Weevil drove away, I loved the "Are you really in control?" with the bus pulling away -- that is so the kind of symbolism I adore. :) And I LOVED Weevil coming back for her. Weevil is one of those characters who took me totally by surprise in the second episode or so and made me love him something hardcore.
The very ending confused me. I had to rewatch it in order to figure out what had happened, which, as I understand it, correct me if I'm wrong, is that the bus with Meg and the new journalism teacher in it went over the cliff. So Lilly saved V's life, and Duncan is safe because he was a'riding with the 09ers. (Dick's constant, "Your girlfriend whose wit I admire and respect" et al is so adorable. *g*) But Meg is dead. But first, her character was assassinated.
Because that girl in this episode was not Meg. Meg is defined by her goodness and purity. She is goodness and purity. That's the point of who Meg is. I have absolutely no idea where the Meg in this episode came from, with the caustic, bitter comments. Yeah, I know that Veronica in S1 could alienate people, and that Meg knows that, but... but Veronica didn't do anything to her! I can understand being upset, sad, even angry, but being a bitch? When Meg has never been known to be a bitch before? Not so much.
But that's not enough to make her deserve to go over the edge.
In conclusion:
"It's Johnny Damon, isn't it?"
"He's so pretty!"
