Just saw West Wing 3x22, "Posse Comitatus." Spoilers for the end of Farscape S3 and Angel S5, and of course, West Wing S3.
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. Okay. The list of fictional TV things that have made me cry:
-John and Aeryn saying goodbye in "Dog With Two Bones"
-Wesley's death in "Not Fade Away"
-Simon Donovan's death in "Posse Comitatus"
Yes, okay, I cried. And fictional TV things don't make me cry all that frelling often. And I might've moaned, "I hate my stupid frelling show," a bunch of times because I guess I realized by now that Aaron Sorkin went to the Joss Whedon School of Happy Relationships but I... *waaaaah,* dammit. Why can't she be happy? And... and waaaaah! She really liked him! And there were Things Keeping Him Apart. And then there weren't so much, and there was going to be kissage and love and sex maybe and he wanted to buy her a flower for God's sake and waaaaaaaaah! *mutters*
And the thing is... yeah. I love CJ, okay? And it's really, really, really all about CJ for me. And CJ liked him and CJ... CJ just never gets a break, okay? And I want her to, because I want her to be happy. I have pretty much ruled on the "I want to be CJ when I grow up" vs "I want to have CJ's fpreg babies" question, and it's totally all the latter. CJ is the teacher I had a crush on, and every adult woman I was ever in love with, and West Wing is love because I am that crazy about CJ.
[*imdbs*
Oh.
Oh.
I'm not watching it. I swear, I'm not watching it, even though it has Logan Cale and now also Simon Donovan and I am not going to get sucked into it, I swear to God. (*is so tempted, despite the scary sounding titles of the current episodes*)]
After that NCIS tangent... dammit I hate my stupid wonderful show that makes me cry and why did no one give CJ a hug? *wails more*
In other news,
hermionesviolin is trying to pimp me into CSI. Um, of the kind that doesn't stand for Crazy Space Incest. NCIS, CSI. Boyslash of infinite prettiness, or FFKOAH? And how'm I supposed to get my hands on this canon when I'm jobless and living on dial-up?
Oh. OHHHH. Frell. I think the deciding vote for CSI might just've been cast by the fact that Sara Sidle, whom I've thought I might like since I read this
ship_manifesto essay, is played by Jorja Fox, who plays Gina, my Favorite Secret Service Agent on West Wing. Since I am notorious for watching stuff just because of the cast (see, also VMars and Alyson Hannigan), I am now TOTALLY torn.
Because NCIS has Mark Harmon, who plays my Second Favorite Secret Service Agent ever, and also Michael Weatherly, while CSI has Jorja Fox, who plays my Favorite Secret Service Agent ever. *happy ackflailing*
Never have I wished more that I weren't on dial-up.

NCIS is not a great show, but it is (most of the time) a good one, and it's great crack. Not only that, but depending on your ship preferences, it's incredibly easy to see any of them as doing any of the others. I swear they put this stuff in there for us on purpose. And yes, all those pretty people. And you'd adore Abby. /pimp
Unfortunately, it hasn't been released on DVD yet. *glowers at DPB*
As for CSI, well, the Malnpudl North Coast Lending Library happens to have the first three seasons in stock, with the fourth likely to arrive for Christmas. I'm just sayin'.

And hey, am not so much trying to get you into it as being all, "But you would love this. Why are you not already there? This does not fit with the universe as I know it."
And in the interest of swinging the vote . . . fannish consensus is that the boys of CSI are attractive, though personally I'm all about Grissom, Sara, and Catherine.

Oh, and: INTERLIBRARY LOAN. Current episodes air Thursdays at 9 on CBS. Seasons 1-4 are out on DVD, and Paige says it's the most popular show on broadcast TV (and thus the most popular show in America) and of course I just pulled up SAILS, and they have it filed funny (as does MLN) but they have seasons 1 and 4, and 2, and I imagine one could find 3 if one poked further.

Date: 2005-09-23 04:37 am (UTC)I'm not very good at it, and usually I'll see someone and know I recognize him/her, and spend the entire episode trying to place the actor rather than watching the show.

You read [info]ship_manifestos for shows you don't even watch?
Sometimes, when I'm bored and there's nothing else on the flist.

Is it one of those things where I can jump right in and not miss anything?

Date: 2005-09-23 04:52 am (UTC)I have such an immense backlog of fic that I can't imagine having to seek out stuff out of my fandoms. (Though there are times when nothing I have bookmarked really speaks to whatever undefinable fic desire I have at that moment.)
Is it one of those things where I can jump right in and not miss anything?
I think so. The character arcs are background to each week's crimes, so the character/relationship developments are a lot more subtle and stretched out than in say Jossverse where the characters and relationships are far more the point. This episode they had allusions to the finale (which I had seen) and brought back a guest star (whom I had never seen) and had allusions to Catherine's past which you wouldn't know were allusions if you didn't already know (and the scenes work fine not knowing her past). They do a really good job of making it accessible to newcomers while also rewarding the viewers who do know the histories of the characters.

Date: 2005-09-23 05:02 am (UTC)And that sounds very much like Stargate in terms of arcs or lack thereof (though lately it seems to be arcing slightly more than previously? I can't tell, because when I watch it in arc-order it feels very much like you need all the backstory, but watching things out of order, as I did with SG the first time through, wasn't horribly difficult to understand.) So. I should go to bed.

Date: 2005-09-23 05:07 am (UTC)In large part because when I want fic I want to be able to get what I want *now* and very little fic comes through my flist, so if I want something I don't already have I have to go seeking through reccers I trust, archives I have bookmarked, etc. etc. and on rare occasions will actually resort to Google.
I think CSI gets more arc-oriented as the seasons progress (as I think all episodic shows do, because they feel -- and rightly so I suspect -- that they need more than that just plot-of-the-week to keep viewers coming back consistently) but yeah, when you *know* the backstory it feels like it's so important, but I think CSI does the newbie-accessibility very well.

Date: 2005-09-23 04:49 am (UTC)NCIS pimpage...YAAAYYY.
Plus there's the boys. The great thing about the show is that you can easily play mix and match with the pairings to suit your tastes. The writers are way cool like that.

Date: 2005-09-23 05:05 am (UTC)And I have heard that in multiple places about NCIS. It sounds like it's right up my alley, since I pretty much mix'n'match to make OTPs anyhow. :)

Date: 2005-09-23 08:30 am (UTC)They are all doing each other. I am trying to be a good little Gibbs/DiNozzo slasher here, but really, with each new episode I get more and more convinced that they are all doing each other.
You'll love it. ;-)

I'm glued even to Freaky Friday and Chasing Liberty... like, Chasing Liberty, because he is in it.
And Gibbs! Gibbs!
I need coffee.
No, I need to cut down on the coffee because I'm in a squee mode and it's *morning* for the love of caffeine!

*loves on you and on CJ*
I adore that that's how you love her and why - for reasons that should be obvious. It's kinda similar to my Toby!love.
I heart Simon, too. With his whole "you have to say something nice about me" and her "I like that you're tall ... it makes me feel more feminine." Perhaps vulnerable!but!strong CJ is a bit of a cliche, but I can't help adoring her like that.

Yeah, me too. Even though I clearly have a strong vested interest in CJ's sekrit kink being underaged girls, I totally find myself in a place where she can seriously love anyone she wants, so long as she gets to be happy. Gah! I love her so much! :)

Date: 2005-09-23 12:18 pm (UTC)Plus, NCIS has one of the most original female characters on a crime drama. Abby is a happy, cheerful, goth who is also the science lab girl.
And I won't ever stop loving Ducky, the ME. He's so sweet, and he loves to tell stories, and he talks to the corpses as he does the autopsy because he wants to show respect to the person who died, and he's taking care of his eighty year old mother who has senile dementia. And he's just such a wonderful person, and then when you threaten someone who he loves he gets cold and scary and says that he can't wait to weigh your liver.
And, okay, sometimes the plots aren't the best, and there can be giant holes you could drive their crime scene van through, but it's still a great show.
And it's on CBS, and there's a site on their website that gives information about the characters and the actors, as well as some clips and behind the scenes stuff.

Date: 2005-09-23 05:23 pm (UTC)Yes. *nods* And although my CSI viewings were rather scatterbrained, she has the makings of a really fucking awesome character.

Date: 2005-09-24 01:35 am (UTC)Is Gina the agent guarding the President's daughter early on?
Jorja Fox also played a kick ass character on ER. Not a main cast member, but in quite a few of the S3 eps if I remember correctly, though after that season her appearances became progressively fewer.

Date: 2005-09-24 03:18 am (UTC)I totally love CJ the same way you do. She's gorgeous and dignified and hilarious and sarcastic and sexy and fun! I choked up over Simon, too...
Such a great show!
