a. Anonymous loveage is, well, love.

4 fandoms I should write in more. Drabbles are sort of thematically related.

[Greeleyverse, Blackie/Sean, G. In which the unflappable Blackie Ryan flaps.]

Smile

Like most men, Sean Cronin reserved a smile for women he adored. I knew that smile well -- I had seen him charm reporters and soothe parishioners with his blarney and his grin, and I had seen him look at his half-sister and sometime-lover Nora like she was the one woman in the world. As familiar as I was with the fluctuations of milord's moods and the meanings of his smiles, I was utterly taken aback, and deeply alarmed, to see him looking at me as I'd only seen him look at beautiful women.

We were, patently, in deep trouble.

[Arthur and Friends, Muffy/Francine, PG. Muffy's braces come off.]

Brace Yourself

When Muffy's braces come off, she is suddenly beautiful. Before she was cute, but clearly a child. Now...Francine gulps.

Because thinking your best friend is cute is normal, especially when she is, especially when you're pretty young yourself and don't need to be interested in boys yet. But when you're older, and she laughs at your jokes, when the snuffly, nasal voice that annoys everyone else makes you feel funny in your stomach, when it seems fortunate that your friends-who-are-boys hate her most of the time, since they won't be competition -- that's not so normal.

Francine is in serious trouble.

[As Time Goes By, Sandy/Jean, PG. Sandy isn't like Judith.]

Pluck

She's her best mate's mum, and if that wasn't bad enough, she's her boss, and if that weren't bad enough, she's engaged to the sweetest man alive who's over the age of fifty. And that's another thing. She is substantially over the age of fifty.

If Sandy were anything like Judi, she'd dress up like Jean, mimic her mannerisms. But Sandy's not like Judi, and she doesn't want to be Jean, though what she does want with her isn't really clear.

"Night, boss."

"Goodnight, Sandy. Any plans?"

"Not tonight," Sandy grins, and immediately her heart flips over.

She rather thinks she's in over her head.

[Harry Potter, Luna/Hermione, G, not-HBP-spoilerish. This is very wrong.]

Mismatched

Luna reads the Quibbler; Hermione reads the Prophet (and doesn't believe a word it prints.) Hermione fancies herself a skeptic but trembles whenever she questions authority; Luna will believe anything once and trusts as gospel that the Establishment will deceive her. Hermione can't see Thestrals. Luna can't see the house-elves right under her nose.

These are just the visible reasons that it's wrong, oh so wrong, for them to have snuck away from their respective towers, under the cover of night and a borrowed Invisibility Cloak, to snuggle together in an extra-cozy Room of Requirement, fervently studying for exams together.

This being my (current) standard response to Blackie/Sean... eeeeeeeeeee! (accompanied by a goofy grin).

I love the Sandy/Jean, too (especially the comment about not being like Judi and wanting to be Jean.)

What's bothering confusing me is that I've landed in the middle of Blackie/Sean... not *love*, but understanding and giggling fascination (and that's a conversation for another time) and a disturbingly intense bout of Winters/Nixon Band of Brothers obsession right at the same time.

Because I don't *do* m/m!!

Oh, that little As Time Goes By makes me very happy.

[There was a great article in some British paper -- the Guardian, probably, as it was irreverent enough -- about how wonderful Judi Dench is, and why whenever people mention her they always talk about how great she is, and how she's a Dame, and all her wonderful films and stage work, and never ever ever mention As Time Goes By. Of course, I adore As Time Goes By almost as much as I adore Judi Dench.]

I have never read anything on As Time Goes by before and that pieces just nocked my shoes and socks off. Brilliant.
