Holodeck
"We shouldn't be in here, Mulder."
"C'mon, Scully, it's our day off. Here, I'll show you a shortcut through this level."
Scully tugged at her virtual shirt, too tight across her chest, but before she could adjust it, a flash of gold told her the pirate cadre had found them. She ensheathed her sword, smiling a little at how quickly its hilt had come to feel familiar in her hands.
She skewered a pirate, pivoted and followed her partner into the woods. A flash of light, and there virtual surroundings vanished, then rematerialized -- they were on a surrealistic spaceship, looking out at unfamiliar constellations.
Mulder was silent. Scully turned and saw he was gazing intently at the starscape. "It's beautiful, isn't it?" he said, when he saw her watching him. "Makes you wonder if maybe some of the developers knew more than they're letting on."
"Or maybe Phoebe just has a highly imaginative mind," suggested Scully ruefully.
Mulder turned away from the view abruptly. "Let's go hunt some aliens." He drew his weapon, now a ray gun.
Scully smiled dryly and put a hand up, stopping him. "If we're going to hunt aliens, Mulder, I'd rather do it in the real world."
"Here at least they're easy to find," Mulder said, as a little green monster dropped from the ceiling.
Scully reflexively zapped the alien, then swiveled to face Mulder again. "Be honest. Where's the adventure in that?"
Mulder looked at the ground, then at the doorway that led to the rest of the level, then back at Scully. "You really want out?"
"Out of the game," she clarified. "Out of the chase? Never."
Together they headed for the failsafe exit, back to whatever awaited them in their real life.

Date: 2005-03-14 05:18 pm (UTC)And I'm adoring your out-of-ten 'ship rating, because, really, it's impossible to write them in the same scene without there being *some* kind of UST ;)
I love this! Thank you!!

Date: 2005-03-16 05:00 pm (UTC)It is so amazing! Three cheers for the overwhelming power that is the Mulder/Scully love! (Man, they are just so good. I want to rewatch old seasons of that show right now.)
