a meme, a cake, and some BSC factoids

[livejournal.com profile] meyerlemon suggested this. I think I'm misinterpreting it, but whatever.

The Slightly Odd Things You Like To See People Post That People Might Otherwise Not Know That You Really Like So You're Telling Them Now Meme

1) Make a list of five things you like to see on your flist.
2) Post this list to your journal.
3) Sit back and wait for the awesomeness to roll in. Yes.

My five:
1. Tidbits from the writing process, or details from the writing process, or annything from the writing process.
2. Questions! I love questions and discussion. Er. Especially about fannish things.
3. Spottings of sci-fi guest stars of doom and/or the incestuous pool of Canadian actors.
4. (short) poems
5. Dar lyrics... or really, any mentions of people enjoying Dar. That makes me happy.

[livejournal.com profile] meyerlemon likes seeing recipes on people's flists, so... this is the carrot cake I made on Monday. I didn't write the recipe, of course, but I typed it! And the cake is QUITE YUMMY.

Recipe by Betsy Horowitz
(found in Type Pi: Recipes from Members of The Society of Printers, published 1983)

Carrot Cake

3 c. flour
2 c. sugar
1-1/2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
4 eggs
2 c. carrots (grated fine)
1-1/2 c. oil
1/2 c. chopped walnuts (optional)

  • Preheat oven to 350ยบ

  • Sift together dry ingredients. Set aside.

  • Combine carrots, oil, and walnuts.

  • Combine two mixtures, vanilla, and eggs.

  • Bake in greased and lightly floured tube pan for one hour.

Eight of you love me for my Big Book of BSC Canon, so naturally it occurs to me that you'd be fascinated to know that:
-Kristy is left-handed!
-Adam Pike is a Red Sox fan! [or at least, loans Mary Anne a Red Sox cap in Boy Crazy Stacey]
-Richard Spier drinks 1 and a half cups of coffee every morning!
-Dee Pike (Mal's mom) and Maureen McGill are "very close friends." *innocence* I make absolutely nothing of this suggestion. I am not tempted in the slightest to slash or ship the BSC-verse adults. Nope. Certainly would not, for instance, be considering what might happen on Richard and Sharon's wedding night. Nope. Not me.

I *love* carrot cake!! I wanted part of my wedding cake to be carrot and everyone objected. :-( Do you have a cream cheese frosting recipe? I can never find a good one.

My mommy makes delicious cream cheese frosting -- which we use on chocolate cake and spice cake, but i imagine it would work on carrot cake. The rest of my house is abed, but i should be able to type it up tomorrow.

P.S. Ari: 5 things? I'm torn between things it should be obvious i want more of and a million obscure things. Plus the fact that i want mostest is for more obvious interest (i.e. commentage) on what *i* post.

That would be wonderful! I have the worst luck with frosting recipes, but I've never made one that someone has actually told me works before, I usually get them out of cook books. I can't wait to try this out when I go home. Thanks!!

It occurred to me that i know exactly where we keep the frequently used recipes, so i don't actually have to wait until anyone is awake.

CREAM CHEESE FROSTING

Beat a 3 oz package of cream cheese with rotary beater until smooth
Add sifted 1 1/2 cup confectioners sugar and beat until blended.
Add 1/2 Tablespoon butter/margarine
and 1/2 teaspoon almond extract.

(For large cake, 8 oz cream cheese and 3 cups sugar.)

The cakes we make are in an 8x8 baking pan, to give you an idea of the size that gets comfortably frosted by this amount of frosting.

Thank you!!! I may have to make this as a surprise for my Dad's birthday!

I hope it works out well for you :)

[Personally i love eating the leftover frosting straight-up, so that's my vote of confidence.]
