May. 17th, 2005 03:53 pmWhat was the last time I did a decent update? I can't really even remember, now. It's been quite a while. Well. My parents and girlfriend got into Virginia on Friday night/Saturday morning. My girlfriend's plane was delayed so she got in very late, and we didn't have much of a reunion at all, just pushed the beds together and tumbled into them at three in the morning. Saturday we spent finishing up packing and loading the car, so that's when Della, my computer, got packed. Saturday afternoon, we had the PEG reception and the Phi Beta Kappa initiation.
The PEG reception was pretty nice. I had the shiny philosophy professor talk about me (two other people also requested him, so I felt unoriginal, but whatever) and said among other things that I was the only student he'd ever taught who had both the skills and the temperament to do theology. That pleased me, since that's probably what I want to do, long-run. And he'll be writing, I imagine, many, many recommendations in the future.
Phi Beta Kappa was... dull. But I'm now initated into the country's oldest and most prestigious honors society, so that's of the good.
The night before graduation, we watched "Ariel" and ate some but not a lot of ice cream, then girl fell asleep early (for us). I did not. Observe panicky post at around 4 am. Yes.
Graduation itself. Commencement speaker was boring. I think there was someone very drunk sitting behind me, or at least very hyper, who kept on calling things out -- some of them positive, some of them not so much. Very irritating. I cried a few times during the ceremony, but then afterwards, I really started sobbing as I realized that I was saying goodbye not only to my girlfriend but to
cheese_munkey and... and everyone. I majorly spazzed, because I was afraid I wouldn't get a chance to say goodbye at all, but I did. Ran to Miller Chapel to get my diploma, and there they were, so there was time for a decent goodbye... And
cheese_munkey's mom said there would be visiting and whatnot.
My mom and I left campus at around 2. I hardly noticed that I was leaving the place that had been home for 4 years... I was very tired. We finished off the lime Coke I'd bought for me and the gf, and my mom drove us to South Jersey on Sunday night, where we ate at a diner and stayed in a motel. Watched Full House and squeed over the slash. Liek whoa.
My dad's plane turned out to be delayed for some reason, so he ended up arriving home about an hour after we did! We got into MA around maybe 3 on Monday afternoon? Anyhow. Unloaded all my stuff into my room, where it is still sitting.
Dad and sister got home... have been skimming LJ as fast as I can, but am afraid that summer hours are in effect and I just won't be able to read as regularly as I did during the school year.
The lectures about finding a job and getting my license have just barely begun. I'm not looking forward to this summer at all. But hopefully I'll find something worthwhile to do. Uh huh.
My desktop background is of Keith and Veronica in LitB. I really should change it, but they make me so ridiculously happy. Which I need, because at the moment? I am not especially ridiculously happy.
My computer is set up, though, and I got a high score in Tetris last night. And my dad's computer is fast, even if the internet is not.
And that's all I wrote. Ficathon stuff. Panicky. Will get right on it. Yes.

Date: 2005-05-17 11:01 pm (UTC)(I am *still* teh smugz0rz over getting an *original* speech for the PEG reception, bwahaha!.)
...what I mainly remember about the graduation ceremony itself is thinking "wow, that was quick" when I was the next person waiting for Buller to call my name... & poking/glomping my friends as they walked by my row (I absolutely threw myself at my roommate...)... & Dr. D. being all proud and teasing and smiling and stepping a bit out from the line when I got close enough to hug. (I think I'm finally down to one major breakdown a day over missing my second mother.)
& yeah... hold strong for all those annoying lectures! XD w000t for tetris! no panic. XP *will try to make/post you Jessica icons tonight.* ...*sigh,* Lady Jessica...

Date: 2005-05-18 01:23 pm (UTC)It's a sad fact of college life that so-called "vacations" become anything but. I feel for you, because I feel even more for me. Again, congratulations.
