I've been wishing there was a "gen" ficathon. In other words, stories centering around characters and friendships rather than pairings. I really want that, to the point where I was kinda considering throwing the idea out there to people to see if there would be interest in it.
But more than anything, there should be a Buffy/Faith ficathon. Please. I'd help run it, even. Yes.
Yeah, I think so too. You've got some problems with the definition, though...if you define "gen" as no mention of romantic relationships at all, it's going to be really hard to write that fic.
But there really isn't enough gen fic out there. *nods*
:D I was talking to gvambat about this on the phone, and wondering how to format it... coming off the friendship fic, I'd be hesitant to do another one -- great idea, not neccessarily worth doing again immmediately.
There are character studies -- the Giles genficathon was great, after all. That's kind of what I'm doing at 20weeks (although it allows pairings)...
What I would love to do, I think, is a Buffyverse metaphysics-a-thon, dealing with stuff like Slayerhood and werewolves, Illyria and the Old Ones, Wolfram and Hart and the Powers that Be. I just worry no one else would be interested.
Would there be interested in doing a set of essays on aspects of Buffyverse metaphysics? Or does that kind of thing already exist...?
Hmm, that does sound interesting, although I was never thrilled by that use of the word "metaphysics" (does anyone know where that came from?). It seems it'd be possible to focus on the "metaphysics" while still doign a ficathon. I think it'd be easier that way, giving the authors some added flexibility.
I know there were just a couple of masterlists posted for gen and friendship ficathons. I don't remember who ran them, but I most likely saw the links through su_herald.
To wisdomeagle: Do it! Ficathons are fun. There's a little work in running one, but not a terrible amount.
Babe, if you don't already have cred from all the crazy meta you do, plus the fact that you churn out copious amounts of quality fic -- oh wait, you just mentioned that as a facade because really you're just a freak who spends ungodly amounts of time in fandom.
I think you should do whatever you want (which is what i suspect you'll do anyway, and i suspect that it'll involve a multiplicity of ficathons over the summer) but i will say that it sometimes seems like everyone and her roommate tries her hand at running a ficathon, and i rarely remember the names of the people who run them, so it's no way to build fannish cred, but you have lots of neat fannish people who read you, so you're likely to actually get a substantial number of participants if you do do one, which makes me happy because in order for a ficathon to be good it needs a minimal critical mass of participants.
omg, seriously. . .if you decide to do the "night they never met" one, I will co-run it with you. i have been saying I want to do a ficathon as soon as school's out and school's out and. . .well, that was one of my ideas, and it seems to be a popular one.
I'm so there! email me if you decide to do this (and actually want a partner) and I'll do it with you!
I ticked Doppleganger/double/clonesex, but that was mostly because I love the idea rather than really wanting a challenge on it. I'm less good at getting challenges done, and I've already got the Cross-gen which is going to be enough of an issue to get done in time (how is it May already? How???)

P.S. I heart your Subject line.
The singer is spelled Sarah McLachlan, though.
