1. I just bit the bullet and signed up for three more ship_manifesto essays. They are, for the record, Daniel/Sam (with the hopes that seimaisin will not mind me stepping into the place she vacated), Scorpy/Braca, and the B:tVS Core Four. Fic recs for any of these, especially Core Four, would be greatly appreciated, as would any thoughts any of you have on the pairings in question.

2. I just realized I have an Angel character study due at with_character on... Monday. Eep? I totally need to get caught up on various ficathon stuff... I've got almost a month for most of them, but there are about four all coming due on May 1!

3. Tonight I read White Smoke and squeed massively. imo, it's possibly the slashiest book, though of course I'd need to reread others... sangerin, since I'm shameless and blame you entirely for my renewed Greeleyverse obsession, can you think of any other non-mystery-series books with heavy Blackie-Sean interaction? The joy of seeing them in a context other than Blackie's cluttered office, overlooked by the three Johns, is wonderful...

Also, I wrote some horrid angst-smut, and couldn't remember if Cathy and Blackie kissed in the Virgin and Martyr backstory. And lo, I am very lame.

4. I hung up with my girlfriend SIX HOURS AGO in exhaustion but since the TV was on I couldn't sleep and I ended up running elsewhere and now I can't make myself turn away from the computer, which I turned off six hours ago. OMG I am so frustrated. I need sleeeeeeeeeeeeep. *dies*

5. Blackie is so cute, for real.

6. I am still panicked that I am going to fail my thesis defense.

The Cardinal Sins, which although it also has a lot of Sean/Nora, I'm sure there's plenty of Blackie/Sean. Although keep in mind, I'm not a Blackie/Sean person...

The Cardinal Sins was my first. I love it so, and Sean/Nora was very nearly my het OTP, for the sheer overwhelming angst-ness of it. I'm not sure if Blackie shows up that much if at all, though. *frown* Virgin and Martyr is the quintessential Blackie backstory book, but the present day is still pre-Sean, I think.

Here's my summary of The Cardinal Sins. It's about characters who aren't Blackie or Sean, though evidentally there's a bit at the conclave.

Maybe both bits have a conclave bit? I'm almost entirely positive that Sean and Nora sleep together at the ... no, wait, I must've been conflating Kevin/Ellen with Sean/Nora? *so confused omg*

Actually, on further reflection, you're probably right, and the '77 (?) conclave is only dealt with in The Cardinal Sins, in which case Sean would be a minor character who happens to be there -- he's nowhere near Cardinal then, I think. *knits brow* There's a Cardinal in The Cardinal Sins, and it's Pat (who gets written out of continuity to make way for Sean, iirc), and he probably voted in the '77 conclave?

I used to read 'em at school, starting in sixth grade... I got a *lot* of funny looks! (Though not as many as for reading the totally dry academic book God and the Rhetoric of Sexuality when most of my classmates were still at the "heh, sexuality, heh" stage.)

I've just been looking through the list of "Collected Works" at www.agreeley.com/booklist.htm ... there are still a lot I haven't managed to track down.

A and I got funny looks because we were trying to convince people that a) the book, despite its cover, was well worth reading, and b) it was written by a Catholic priest. *g* ~loves Greeley~

You know, I was also totally remembering Sean being at the '78 conclave and being the one who talked to Karol-who-became-John-Paul. I'm trying to remember why Sean and Nora ended up in Italy in the first place in order to have sex and it's eluding me, unless it was Conclave-related.

I'm fascinated by the booklist and trying to connect all the canon, and if I'm right and Virgin and Martyr is the first book that has Blackie in it at all, then he's been around for exactly as long as I have; V+M was written in '85. :)

Oh, and re: your essay/post on The Cardinal Sins, subtext etc... A - my "girl who isn't" - was once fairly devestated to find, in a non-fiction book written by Greeley, a polemic against homosexuality. We've both managed to rationalise it away because we love everything else he writes, but it's still at the back of my mind. *sigh*

Do you happen to recall when said non-fiction was published? Because I totally sense a progression in his thinking through the years. I think his view of women and God and also sexuality has evolved a lot... I still can't think of any very sympathetic gay supporting characters, but they've gotten a lot better over the years. *sigh*
