Apr. 5th, 2005 04:41 pm1. Gateverse characters poll, pimped every five minutes in the off-chance that there's someone on the flist who hasn't been badgered into taking it yet. So far Hammond only has three ticks for "sexy" (and one of them from my girlfriend whom I think is SO LYING OMG. H0R!) Go on. Give Hammond love!
2. It's not too late to guess my favorite ships! The original post is here, and there's another post here with some hints! There are only two pairings left to go; when they're all guessed, I'll give out awards! The SG-1 femslash was just guessed; it's Sam/Catherine OMG! Still two Andromeda pairings to be guessed.
3. Since we all had so much fun with the guessing 'ships meme, let's do the guess my favorite characters meme. Since I'm still having problems with the concept of "favorite," let's go with a male and female character from each fandom.
Anne of Green Gables (So many generations to choose from! Couldn't limit myself to just one, but finally got it down to five: three male, two female, spanning all eight books.
silly_cleo got two of them: Anne Shirley Blythe, whose red-headed babble and sweetness and imagination hooked me from the time we meet her, and Matthew Cuthbert, who was just so sweet and loving and who won Anne's heart and mine from the word go.
sangerin got Walter Blythe. He's great in Rilla, but he really won me in Anne of Ingleside on the night Anne gives birth to Rilla and Walter is miles away at Alice's house and walks all the way home just to see his mother because he's afraid she's dying. Um. That one. That quiet, persistant strength, the love, the courage that he shows throughout... One more female character, one more male character!)
Star Trek: TOS (no female. Cos... yeah.
gvambat guessed Kirk, because she's a h0r. Hint: it's not.)
Completed Fandoms
Andromeda
malnpudl guessed Harper, who is absolutely correct. I love the sweet snarky geeky dorky engineer with the caffeine addiction because, um, he's pretty? OMG. Love.
malnpudl also got the girl, she's Trance who's enigmatic and bouncy and happy and purple and sparkly! OMG. Love!)
Buffy: the Vampire Slayer (female character was a toss-up.
silly_cleo really cleaned up with the first round here! The male character is Giles, who's sexy and British and a librarian and loves too much. The female character is a tie between Willow, whom I love in the high school years for her shyness and babble and unrequited crush on Xander, and Tara, who grows on you slowly until you love no one else, and whom I identify with way too much.)
Angel: the Series (Again, full points to
silly_cleo who guessed Wesley, who grew on me until he became practically my favorite character ever, with the two-day beard and the angst and the always trying to do the right thing and never being able to, and Fred, whom I loved when she was mad and love again when she's sane and strong and beautiful, who wasn't my favorite until fandom told me I didn't love her and I realized that I did!)
Stargate: Atlantis (
malnpudl correctly guessed Elizabeth Weir and Rodney McKay. Because, dorksquee, and so hot, and so funny, and snarky, and scientists/geeks, and trying so hard, and love!)
Firefly: (The female character is, of course, Kaylee, whose smile enticed me and never let me go, who stole my heart with "Shindig," and whom I aspire to be. The male character was practically impossible to choose.
silly_cleo also guessed Wash, who, after careful consideration, I decided won out because he is a Great Big Dork.)
Dark Angel (
malnpudl guessed Logan, who fits my geeky uke snarky broken bitter boy profile perfectly, and Orginal Cindy, who's hot and funny and loyal and lesbian and wonderful)
Farscape (there are two male characters. I just couldn't choose.
silly_cleo, again got Zhaan, who is possibly the most singularly beautiful creature in sci-fi, and calm and struggling, dark and light, noble and curiously selfish, and John, whose story is heart-breaking and addictive, who's insane and loving and loyal to a fault. Aaand full marks to
silly_cleo who finally guessed Braca, who's the most adorable little whipped bitch I've ever seen. Loyalty, devotion, love, angst... he's the best half of Scorpy/Braca.)
Lord of the Rings (The female character, guessed by
silly_cleo is Goldberry, mostly because a Peter Jackson inspired fandom forgets her. And because she's sweet and good.
silly_cleo also got the favorite male character, Sam Gamgee, who's also good and loyal and loving and so in love with Frodo it's heart-breaking.)
Stargate SG-1 (
silly_cleo got this one too. It's Sam [sexy and geeky and funny and a bit of a dork] and Daniel [sexy and geeky and snarky and funny and... a bit of a dork.])
Harry Potter (Full points to
silly_cleo yet again! The male character is Lupin, who's, well, a perfect woobie, and all tattered and broken and pretty. Female characters are Hermione, who's my Mary Sue, and McGonagall, whom I want to be. Or possibly have sex with.)
Greeleyverse (This is on here for
sangerin, so lucky she guessed it right! Female is Mary Kate, a toss up really, but she's snarky and smart and fun. The male character is of course Blackie, who might well be my most favorite character of all from any 'verse for reasons that I can't even describe. If you've met him, you know.)
As Time Goes By (
sangerin guessed correctly Jean, who was an early love of mine. Judi Dench is amazingly gorgeous, and I love Jean, especially when Lionel say something sweet to her and she melts, just melts. It's wonderful. Male character is decidedly not up in the air. Lionel (guessed by
sangerin) has both feet planeted firmly on the ground, and his crusty, crotchety old-aged-ness makes me grin and giggle. I love this ship SO MUCH, and on Lionel's part, I love the way he struggles to adapt to the way Jean has changed in 38 years, the way he can sometimes say just the right thing, the way he's... Lionel.)
Keeping Up Appearances (
sangerin guessed correctly Richard. His long-sufferingness is adorable, and I love him and pity him and want him just to get a moment's respite. Female character, also guessed by
sangerin, is Daisy, for many of the same reasons. She strikes me as one of the most honest characters among these... she's a bit like Kaylee, always keeping a happy face, and she's laid-back enough to realize that the kitchen doesn't always need to be clean. She's escapist, with her romance novels, but who wouldn't be, with a sister like that? I adore Daisy; I also happen to think she's quite pretty.)
Baby-Sitters' Club (all incarnations.
velvetandlace guessed Mary Anne, and she is so, so right. Mary Anne is probably the earliest love of all of these. She's sweet and shy with a streak of rebelliousness, and she cries at the drop of a hat, and values her friendships greatly, and is just like me, omg. Male character, also guessed by
velvetandlace is Ducky. He's my role model, yo. And he gives roses to the Cro-Mags. So much gay!)
Sherlock Holmes (there is no female character here. Sorry. I just couldn't bring myself to choose Irene Adler. The male character was guessed by Alixtii. He's Sherlock Holmes himself. The logic, the contained passion, the emotional repression bordering on autism, the intelligence, the OMG love for Watson that comes out ever so rarely... I love him so much he overwhelms even my loyalty/uke kink and is more favorite than Watson.)
4.This is the important one. You get to help me do my anthropology homework! I've helpfully put this in poll format, because I'm told everyone loves a poll. Great! Thanks to everyone who filled it out; I'm done now. Will post the paper shortly, in case anyone's interested.
Please discuss anything in the comments if you need to specify, or even just if you feel like talking. I encourage you to be as creative as possible with the sentences you write. Fannishness will get you bonus points! (Not because my anthro teacher will care, but because it'll entertain me.)
[Poll #468742]
Wish me luck on finishing thesis tonight?

Hee, guessing game!

Angel - Fred and...Wesley?
Firefly - Simon and Kaylee?
Stargate SG-1 - Sam and Daniel?
Harry Potter - Remus, Hermione and McGonagall?
Lord of the Rings - Uh. Eowyn or Goldberry and...Frodo? I've so got no idea.
Farscape, I have no idea. *l* Aeryn, D'Argo and Pilot?
Anne - Anne herself, Gilbert, and I'm out.
I need help with this guessing games thing.

Buffy: Right exactly. I couldn't decide between Tara and Willow. :)
Angel: Yep!
FF: Kaylee is right exactly, Simon is probably my least favorite male character.
SG-1: Yes!
HP: Yep!
LotR: Yes to Goldberry (becuase I'm a dork OMG), not Frodo though.
Farscape: None of the above, though I love them all... Aeryn's my second favorite female.
AoGG: Anne's right, but not Gilbert. :)

Date: 2005-04-05 10:00 pm (UTC)The other language I speak (spoke?) fluently (I'm very rusty) is Yiddish, which could be termed Germanic historically, I suppose. I used to be pretty good at ASL, but I haven't used it in so long that I definitely am no longer conversational. Took Spanish and Russian classes; could possibly speak a bit of Spanish if I took a brush-up course, but I'd have to start Russian again from scratch. Which is too bad, because it's also the language I'd love to be able to speak.

Date: 2005-04-05 10:07 pm (UTC)First, sorry about the Gateverse poll. When I clicked the first time, I saw the SG:A part and thought that you'd just labelled it wrong as 'gateverse' and it was actually sg:a-verse only, which is why I didn't participate that first time. Sorry *cough*
Now for the language poll. I read and understand Italian well enough but never got any classes. My ears got accustomed to the language thanks to my family. I don't speak it though because when my grand-parents went back to Italy, everyone else living in France spoke French, and for a long time we didn't go back there either, so... stuck with France and French. But since I'm quite good at languages, Italian stuck with me.
And I still picked that language when you asked what language we wished to learn, because I can't speak it nor write it... I go by with reading and understanding it as best as I can, and even that, I could seriously improve.

Date: 2005-04-06 10:40 am (UTC)I speak English somewhat fluently (I would say) and I also speak Swedish Signlanguage quite fluently.
My German and French are rusty but I could improve them if I practised speaking more.
I want to learn too many languages for my own good, right now I'm focusing on Japanese and Arabic...perhaps Turkish aswell. :)
I don't really NOT want to learn any language but Chinese and Russian are way down on the list, so to speak, and I have no idea why. ;)

Alixtii.
