Feb. 7th, 2005 01:49 pmJack/Sam: shippy.
Sam/Hammond: shippy
Teal'c: yay!
Daniel: whiny brat
irony: ironic
Ari: spent the whole ep yelling at them to leave Abydos NOW.
Poll: accident? NID? Air Force regulars?
Heru'ur: mmm. Evil.
Leave! Leave now!
Sniffff... Sha're/Daniel makes me sniffle every time. Gah. They were sweet together. And poor, poor Sha're.
Ohh, and I like Jacob. Because... I dunno, 'cos I do. And Sam has Daddy Issues. Fun.
And Jacob and Hammond were so doin' it.
Sam backstory! The most Sam backstory we ever get.
Man, I love this show. Even though there are continuity glitches galore and the science makes no sense and the story-arc makes no sense... I like this show. I love this show. So much.
And I adore Sha're. That glimpse they share... not their last moment together, but their second to last moment, and it's SO SQUEE! *loves*
Man, I really like Teal'c in this ep, yanno? I really like Teal'c. Because when Daniel's being a whiny insolent brat, Teal'c's like, okay, let's go. NOW.
Yay "Secrets"!

Date: 2005-02-07 10:14 pm (UTC)Seconded, thirded, and fourthed. Teal'c! Character! Making sense and not making me want to smack him...erm...[Willow]If I were larger, and had grenades.[/Willow]
Ari: spent the whole ep yelling at them to leave Abydos NOW.
Oh hell yes. And go visit Cimmeria. Quickly.
Is that the kind of irony that they could've known ahead of time?
Heru'ur: mmm. Evil.
Jack/Heru'ur. Knife. Squeeish.
:p
Poll: accident? NID? Air Force regulars?
NID. Accident is rather straining at the credulity and not so great storytelling unless they go do something with it or at the very least mention it. Air Force regulars...well, it'd probably have to be some sort of secret group, as murdering civilians is not the usual or legal type of order. Having it be someone SGC-ish could be interesting, but given that the PTB have rather consistently blamed the NID (or various others...retconning...whatever) for all the evilness in the government, I'm going with them.
And Jacob and Hammond were so doin' it.
I missed this scene! My copy must be deficient. *cries*

Really? I can't remember that bit, what do we get?
the science makes no sense
No, it's worse than that. The science makes a modicum of sense. Shows that make no scientific sense at all (Farscape, Lexx) just say "that's not the point of the show, we know it and we don't care", throw us enough information to let us know what's possible in the universe but leave the process and the science and all in a big black box that you can speculate on if you're really geekish but you can also just let it go.
(Now that I think about it, Firefly is a sort of interesting exception to the above...it's sci-fi, the point is not the science, and as conceived of by Joss it really doesn't make that much scientific sense, but leads to endless amounts of rather interesting speculation about the universe/solar system that require twisting of canon just a little bit and would possibly be rather impossible for TBTB to carry off what with the camera work and et cetera, but is barely divorced from canon at all. Even River...telepathy is probably scientifically impossible, if a common enough theme that I can ignore that, but as it has only really been said that she reads people, not necessarily reads thoughts, it's still within the realm of possibility...pure dumb luck? Okay, okay, [/digression])
Shows that make some bit of sense, or more accurately, try to throw in enough technobabble and occasional smidge of science to make it sound believable (Stargate, Star Trek, "Happy Anniversary", Sentinel [although it's usually not my field, so not half so much with the bugging], and so forth) and then they sound like they ought to be believable, that the PTB want you to look at it and dissect it and make it all fit together but no matter how much hair you rip out it just doesn't work...
Of course, there are a few times they actually try and get it right (Andromeda, "Supersymmetry") and then one spends hours squeeing in geekish joy...
Huh. That turned into a rant. My apologies.

About how she always wanted to go into space, even since she was a little girl.
Is that the kind of irony that they could've known ahead of time?
Yes, it really is. And I think the episode, despite being so good, might be unwatchable as a result becasue they're being SO stupid, especially Daniel. Sort of redeemed because Teal'c acknowledges that Daniel is being a whiny little bitch, but still... it makes it really, really hard to watch.
