All right. I watched it. It was hell trying to get it. Took like, an hour, and then it didn't download completely so at about 35 minutes I had to redownload it. But it downloaded completely that time, and so I watched the ending with only a two minute or so, er, commercial break.
Ahem. Episode. First, attempting to be a spoiler-virgin in this fandom is next to bloody impossible. First there are the pictures on stargates.tk from the, what, second to last scene of the episode. Which I avoided seeing the first time around but was unable to avoid looking the second time. And then they included the previews for the next episode at the end. And is it just me, or are we waiting another month or so until we get 7x13 in Great Britain? And if so, isn't that just frelling dren? Yeah. Not happy. Impatient.
EPISODE. Plot? What plot? It was all just an elaborate scheme to get Daniel to wrap his arm around Jack's shoulder in the final scenes. And it worked quite well, don't you think?
My inner slasher is having kittens, she's so happy.
All right. It must be said. If Stargate is going to have another season that's worth watching, it needs a main arc that's... not an over the top badguy, oily skin, cliched behaviour. Anubis makes me laugh. His super-villains make me cringe. Is this actually supposed to be intriguing? This is supposed to make me go "ooh, scary" and not "ooh, let's get back to the sweaty dirty Daniel now, shall we?"
Jack. SQUEE.
My inner fangirl started squeeing the moment Jack spoke Spanish. My inner fangirl continued squeeing through the entire bit with Burke. Jack/Burke/Woods. It's the new OT3. (Tell me there aren't going to be a shitload of badly written threesome fics on Area52. Tell me this isn't a much better pairing than Jack/Kawalski ever was. Tell me this does't surpass everything except Jack/Maybourne as the best alternate way to get Jack shacked up with a guy.
My innner slasher squees loudly everything anyone refers to Jack as female. My inner slasher is a wee bit excitable.
Every time Daniel makes a reference to Need, my heart does a little fangirl twinge. I did not kiss the screen and the beautiful angst-ful Daniel. Did NOT.
Man, Daniel was so pretty in this episode. I need to watch it on a real TV, and soon.
Especially the ending.
Because really, this episode was all about Jack hiking through the woods of Hondorus to find his ickle spacemonkey and bring him home safe and sound. And man, that's what happened. And the slash, it was edible. It really was.
Was I disappointed? No. But I wasn't expecting much, either. I was expecting there to be slashy moments. I was expecting the team to get split up, I was expecting Jack-lite, I was expecting Daniel to be pretty. I kinda might have been spoiled that Jack and "an old friend" would go searching, and I was hoping beyond hope that it would be Maybourne, but it wasn't, and I'll live.
Definately fanfic. Definately well-written, fairly in character fanfic. The characters seem... almost like cartoons of themselves. Softer around the edges.
I've already forgotten why Daniel went looking for the fountain of youth in the first place, and Evolution part one was only three months ago.
I worship at the alter of stargates.tk.
I might need to rewatch the rescue scene a couple dozen times to get the full nuance of the Jack/Daniel interaction. Especially the part where Daniel had his arm around Jack's shoulder
Besides Evolution part 2, I also watched Die Me: Dichotomy and Seaon of Death (Farscape) and Seige (the Sentinel) today. Let's hear it for fannishness!
