cannot sleep; too much easter
Apr. 12th, 2009 03:49 amIt's exactly like a kid unable to sleep on Christmas Eve because of Santa, with three important exceptions:
1. Unlike Santa, Easter is real.
2. Unlike Santa, Easter has already come.
3. Unlike the kid, I have to drive to church tomorrow.
Breathing? Didn't help. Praying? Didn't help. Able to think about anything that isn't Easter and how amazing it is? Notsomuch.

Date: 2009-04-13 05:54 am (UTC)It sustained me while I was stuck attending Easter services at a Baptist church of a decidedly anti-intellectual strain in order that we could see my cousin (and one-time best friend), who is four months pregnant!
Instead of, you know, actually discussing anything from any of the gospels about the death or the resurrection, widely considered to be a pretty compelling story, maybe even, you know, the best one ever told, he took a brief text from Revelation (!) and told us all at great length about how he'd experienced a pastoral crisis spanning multiple years apparently involving unspecified people in the church who said mean things to him about his leadership and preaching, and how he wanted to get with one of the many attractive churches who were actively courting him, but God kept telling him to stick with Central Baptist (where we were presently sitting), and, as one might have guessed from the fact that he was standing up in the front and talking to us today, he and God eventually worked things out to where he ended up staying at Central Baptist.
This was not an Easter message! This was an extensive recap of someone's personal therapy sessions! But it was okay, because I had already heard Easter celebrated on LiveJournal, so all that was really left was to see my out-of-town family and enjoy them as much as I could in a day and a half. ♥ ♥ ♥
