Puzzle Pirates: overcame my fear of interacting with other humans, even in highly virtual context, and discovered that pillaging with a crew is vastly more lucrative than the Navy puzzles etc.

Main Street: On the third book. So very soothing. The contents of Ann M. Martin's id are so nice.
wisdomeagle: bottle of purple liquid with a pipe floating in it, text "bpal!" (perfume)
Perfumes: various BPAL yules.

"Gossips in Ghost Land" = "black cedar, patchouli, tea leaves, spiked with pink peppercorn, mate, and lime rind." This is potent and not ~pretty and I considered washing it off rather than wearing it to work yesterday evening, but it mellowed a little as the evening progressed.

Wore "Spirit Board" tonight. "Redwood and bois de rose with white lilac, dried pink roses, and black tea." Wet on skin I could just smell the lilac, and then it became all rose, all the time, as pretty much all rose does. I like smelling of rose, so it's fine, but perhaps I can concede that I now own enough rose perfumes for the time being.

Games: Puzzle Pirates. Lots. Have been working the daily free crafting puzzles for the past several days.

Books: Finally finished Wintergirls. Tempted to turn around and reread it, but instead decided to try to read Ann M. Martin's Main Street series. (I have never read all the way through, nor even all the way through the first seven books, which is all I own. But they are very soothing.)

I should really check Ann's blog more often so I can see things like pictures of her house and an audio interview with her [link].

I am just grinning with the sheer glee of it. ANN. I now own Main Street #4 and should really read it sometime.

... GAH SHE IS SO CUTE. <3<3<3<3<3

I do it for the joy it brings
because I'm a joyful girl
because the world owes me nothing
and we owe each other the world
I do it because it's the least I can do
I do it because I learned it from you
and I do it just because I want to
because I want to

1. This year was the year! for Harry Potter fannishness. First there was Deathly Hallows, best book ever this year, certainly! At least that I read! It totally revitalized my interest in Harry Potter, so much so that I wrote fic, worked on my WiP, joined a Harry Potter community, which inspired yet more fic, and was so excited about item #2 that it warrants its own itemization. Because Harry Potter is amazing, and my beautiful, beautiful dark haired boys. ♥
2. And then JKR outed Dumbledore! Which is still so awesome I can't get over it. Yes, I know, problematic, not denying it, but. DUMBLEDORE. Is the greatest wizard the world has ever known. And is gay. SQUEE.
3. And in sports news, it doesn't get much better than the second WORLD SERIES victory in my lifetime! Go Red Sox! Etc!
4. There was Yuletide (sorted by fandom). I don't know which is more awesome, the fics I had written for me (Marilla/Matthew! MAIN STREET!) or the fact that I finally recovered my writing mojo (FOR KEEPS I HOPE) or the great fannish outpouring of togetherness as we banded together to achieve the entirely possible goal of TWO THOUSAND fics. That was in fact pretty awesome, and the lovely feedback/recs I've gotten? ONLY ICING. This was my second year doing Yuletide and I don't know how I'd finish my year without it!
5. Mmm, Main Street. Does it count as a fandom if it's only two? (That is, me and my SECERT YULETIDE AUTHOR!) Either way, I'm so excited about new canon from Ann. I love the series to bits and pieces and I love having something to look forward to every few months in the AWESOME SHINY FABRIC STORE category. (OH LOOK. Here is a November letter from Ann, all about how she fell in love with Paula upstate New York. Oh, Ann, never stop being you.)

Three things I did well this year:
1. I did not have to default on any ficathons! I was only a little bit late with one, and that was because my power went out.
2. I helped to run [livejournal.com profile] forty_or_better (my contribution was coming up with the name and submitting my fic three days late, and [livejournal.com profile] kindkit was an awesome mod) and helped with one round of [livejournal.com profile] femslash_minis!
3. I didn't write as much fic as I would have liked, but with [livejournal.com profile] hogwarts_elite and [livejournal.com profile] yuletide, I pretty much doubled what my output would have been otherwise! Turns out last minute panic really is the impetus for producing insane amounts of fanfiction!

Two things I am looking forward to [doing (better)] next year:
1. If there are no objections from the viewing audience, I would love to make [livejournal.com profile] femslash_minis active again!
[edit, bonus] 3. Also, I'm going to try to be better about betas in the coming year!

First off, story for me, which is the best in the archive, and yes I know this before reading any of the others. Because it is MAIN STREET FIC. How To Make A Quilt (Flora, gen). And it's absolutely perfect in every way. So, what you should do is, go read it, and realize how awesome Main Street is, and then go out and buy the books and write EVEN MORE fic. See? Perfect! (And, um, since I'm pretty sure I can guess who wrote it? Many holiday hearts, my eternal thanks, and see? Making pimp posts a week before Yuletide TOTALLY WORKS. !)

Second, I also got a stocking stuffer, Waiting, a Matthew/Marilla story. In which they are married! Which is practically true in the canon, too, and so there.

Is anyone else not getting comments emailed to them? This would be one thing if I had, yanno, one fic, but I have TEN. I don't think I can keep track of them all without gmail to help me!

(And my original assignment was REALLY NEAT too and I'm kind of tempted to write that one too! You know. In all my spare time.)

Dear Yuletide writer,

I know what you are thinking. You are thinking, "What kind of sick freak is my recipient, anyhow? Who requests Baby-Sitters Club het?" (Yes, I am sure that is the squickiest thing I requested. Yep.)

Okay. So. I'm Ari, and I'm a polyfictional Christian lesbian who's a fan of cross-gen and has Interests Not Suitable For LiveJournal. I'm a gigantic dork. I love fiction of all kinds. I'm a theology student. I'm a femslasher but didn't request any femslash this Yuletide. I bring my own subtext. I'd love it if you brought yours too. I love these source texts like squishy things and hope you do too. Thank you so much for volunteering to write, and I hope you have a blast reviewing some source material and writing something that you enjoy. Except for the one restriction noted in my sign-up -- no NC-17 Anne of Green Gables fic -- everything goes, including: kink, incest, boyslash, girlslash, het, three or moresomes, character death, background pairings I didn't request, [ETA] genderbending, genderplay, genderfrell, or any variation thereon[/eta] -- you shouldn't write these things if they don't appeal to you, but if that is the way the story moves you, feel free.

Mostly, I would love a story that in some way demonstrates love for the source -- I have great big litcrushes on Ann M. Martin and Father Greeley and Lucy Maud because they've written these universes that I adore, that I can dive into again and again and feel like coming home, because they've created these characters who I love like family, who were part of my growing up, who were my solace and my escape from the real world. The sourcetexts aren't perfect and it's fine to acknowledge that -- it's hard not to write BSC pastiche that isn't a little bit of a gentle parody, I think, and goodness knows Greeley has some skanky race and gender issues -- but really, I love these sources. I love the worlds, the characters, and I think the sense of innocence of all the series. (Yes. This is why I asked for slash and incest. I don't really get me, either.) I would love fic written in-the-style-of, and I'd love fic written in a completely different style so long as something in the writing remains true to the spirit of the texts, the important themes, the characters at their depths. I know that's hard to define, and don't worry about trying to figure out what I think is the spirit of the books. I'd rather you figure out what you love about the source and celebrate that in your fic.

[more specific tl;dr behind the cut]

I am paging through the Main Street books finding character names for Yuletide-nomming purposes. (There are three books. There are like thirty characters. I would like fic about ALL OF THEM.)

I'm assuming that the reason that y'all aren't squeeing about Main Street on a regular basis is that, like me, you find it so perfect and amazing that words fail you when you try to discuss it. But since I would kind of like at least one of my fandoms to have more fans than just me this Yuletide season...

Main Street is Ann M. Martin's new series. It's currently three books long, with a fourth on the way, and they're obviously really quick reads, unless you choose to bask in the sheer lush awesomeness of them.
cut for sheer squee )
I love these books. I love them so much and I love all the characters and I want to wallow in the world-building. You could read them all in one afternoon. And then you could write me Yuletide fic. Oh yes.

I'm back from school, where I had a panic attack (cured now), lots of homework, etc.

TOTAL: (125)
gryff 1
puff 51
claw 73

BUT. Most importantly:
1. There is new Main Street! With a lovely picture of the fabric store in the back cover.
2. (Definitely not unrelatedly) Yuletide noms are open! I've narrowed it down to three I want to request in, so now it's choosing another three (and eventually figuring out what my fourth request should be.)

This will be briefish. My fannish activity in the past monthish has been on the not side.

I watched the first season of Grey's Anatomy. There are no prizes for guessing which character I would really like to have sex with. I mean, all the characters are really pretty and all, but. Gah. So now I've ILL'd the second season so I can watch that even closer to midterms//finals.

There's so much femslash on my flist right now. [livejournal.com profile] femslash07. Yay! Yay! Yay! YAY.

I'm really excited about my Remix assignment. Perhaps I should start writing it pretty soon.

Ann M. Martin is writing a new series (Ann's letter is here). About a fabric store. This is so great I couldn't possibly be making it up. (Also, the characters will AGE. ♥)

I hear yesterday was the tenth anniversary of B:tVS beginning to air in the US. I didn't start watching anywhere near the beginning, but this is still exciting news. Happy anniversary, fandom.
