Things learned from tonight's metafandom:

1. McKay and Weir, still not siblings! (Actually, I knew this already. Apparently it is knowledge uniquely implanted in my brain from watching a completely different show from the one everyone else is watching.)

Also not siblings:
-McKay and Sheppard
-John and Teyla.

Every time I see this argument, I feel compelled to point and boggle and cry.

2. There are filking BNFs. Who knew?
3. SGA fandom, still made of win. And by that I mean I am so far removed from this fannish experience that it's hard to believe Gateverse was my life for a few years. And gateverse boyslash. I realize there are unscary parts of the SG-fandom to this day, but there are also scary parts. Yes.
4. Studio 60 is endangered or doomed. Which. Not surprising. But the all-important question is -- will there be more you-know-who before it goes?
5. [livejournal.com profile] whedon_updates. I did not know this existed. Huh.

The requests for [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa are showing up on my flist! I'm not signing up for three very good reasons:
1. Almost two years behind on canon.
2. Graduate student and insanely busy.
3. Still skewed entirely away from fandom and its OTP.

BUT I am so pleased with the nature of the sign-ups (though I don't think the OTP has even been mentioned) BECAUSE people seem to be being really polite! It always causes me stress in ficathon sign-ups when people feel the need to say, "I won't write Spike/Xander because ewwwwwww gross!" or "Please no Sam/Daniel - they're like siblings!" And none of the sga_santa signups have caused me to flail in that manner! Awesome!

Not so awesome is all the work I have to do this afternoon. Blech.

In this interesting meta on Spike/Dru, the phrase "they're like brother and sister" keeps popping up, and every time it makes me go, "Grr!" until I realize that this is not, actually, being used as an argument against the pairing but rather convenient shorthand for one of the ways in which they relate in their quite clearly and canonically sexual relationship, and that the sibling thing is mostly set up in opposition to a parent-child dynamic.

Ah, the Jossverse. Where "they're like brother and sister!" doesn't mean they aren't doing it as well.

1. Church was lovely this morning.
2. I enjoy the companionable and communal effort by which my family now exists. Almost all the things I often list in my "things done well today," I did with others. This is different but not bad.
3. I looked totally hot today in a long black skirt and tight black shirt. You only wish you were as hot as me.
4. My father's sense of humor.
5. The passage quoted above. Oh yes glee.

Three things I did well today:
1. Laundry!
2. Grocery shopping!
3. Did not drink caffeine at dinner!
4. (BONUS!) Beta'd [livejournal.com profile] hermionesviolin's fic.

Two things I am looking forward to doing (better) tomorrow:
1. Ficcing!
2. Working a shift of some length in retail hell and thus EARNING MONEY.

randomly: when signing up for ficathons and mentioning the things you don't like/won't write -- that's fine, but must you mention your reasons? Also, "good friends who understand each other" does not equal "siblings." Just sayin'... okay done now.

I think McKay/Weir has entirely destroyed my ability to correctly perceive the characters. It's terrible. And not just to perceive the characters... it's like [livejournal.com profile] prillalar was talking about in this post about how she has a few (very few) pairings that she adores so much that she cannot write them as anything other than superficial hearts + flowers + kisses because they are just that wonderful. I'm afraid I've done that with Rodney + Elizabeth. Heck, I've even started calling them by their first names. And I love them so tremendously much. I don't know if I'll ever be capable of writing this pairing rationally without, you know, incessant sap. I've already started thinking that McKay's love for Elizabeth is The Purest Love He's Ever Felt, and that's definitely not a good sign if my goal is something beyond "OMG they're in love SQUEE." And not only in love, but in pure and untainted love.

I mean, this for a man who has said, publicly, to a woman he adores, "Hospital gowns turn me on." And I've got him in such mad raptures of love and respect for Elizabeth that he won't even look at her funny, and I'm going with the "never felt this way about anyone before" thing, and I'm beginning to think I broke my objectivity.

But, but, but... is R/E! McWeir! Rodney McKay + Elizabeth Weir! ♥ ! How could I possibly be objective?

Do you see now why regardless of how much you love me, you shouldn't envy my girlfriend? She had to listen to babble like this for about three hours the other night, only slightly less comprehensible.

So, I have some fandom-related thoughts about incest. Not actual incest for the most part, but the argument against certain pairings on the basis that they're "OMG incest ewwww."
[talking, naturally enough, about Sam/Daniel and about Giles/Scoobies, as those are the only examples I can think of. Oh, and also Sam/Cassie.]
