10 characters:
1. Richard Spier (BSC)
2. Kara Thrace (BSG)
3. Xander Harris (BtVS)
4. River Tam (Firefly)
5. Josh Lyman (tWW)
6. Jean Grey (XM)
7. Alexis Denisof (RPF)
8. Aeryn Sun (Farscape)
9. Fred Burkle (Angel)
10. Joss Whedon (RPF)
1. Divide the list up by even and odd. Which group of five would make a better Five Man Band (like a Power Rangers team)? Who would you slot in each position: Leader, Fighter, Diplomat, Scientist, Eye-Candy? If you think the team would be improved by swapping one character between the even and odd groups, which ones would you switch?
Richard, Xander, Josh, Alexis, and Fred vs Kara, River, Jean, Aeryn, and Joss. Um. Wow, team even has got it going on, whereas team odd is mostly comic relief. Team odd: leader is Josh because I just can't imagine him relinquishing the role, fighter is Xander because he's the only one with any kind of physical training, diplomat is Richard because really, how badly would Josh screw up this role, scientist and competence girl is Fred, eye-candy is Alexis. 'Cos that's kind of his job!
Team even is pretty much a fight for who gets to be fighter. So. Leader=Jean, fighter=Aeryn, diplomat=Joss (because no one else is remotely suited), scientist=River, and eye-candy=Kara.
Oh man, can team even be my girlfriend? (Um. Could it be made more effective by switching in like, Richard for diplomat again? Possibly. But not more awesome.)
2. Gender-swap 5, 8 & 10. Which character would have the most change in their story arc? Which the least? Would any of these characters have to have a complete personality change to be believable as the opposite sex?
Josh Lyman, Aeryn Sun, and Joss Whedon.
Hmmmm. I don't know! Aeryn probably changes the least because she codes as masculine in a lot of ways anyway and PK ideas about gender are not our ideas about gender. I don't know if John falls in love with him, though, and if not, then, um, pretty much the entire show changes. Josh and Joss are now both women in men's worlds. girl!Josh/CJ is now EVEN MORE my OTP (and reminds me of girl!McKay/Weir). Joss's feminist thing is now her silly girly agenda, and it's unclear whether BtVS even happens. I do have trouble envisioning either of them as female; they're both wordy and confident in a way that I think would parse differently for women.
3. Compare the matchups of 5/8 and 2/9. (Ignore canon sexual preferences for the moment.)
Josh/Aeryn vs Kara/Fred
Which couple would be more compatible?
Well... I think a case could be made that Josh is actually a bit like John, in the end. And Kara's definitely a bit like Gunn, though not as sane. And Fred's a bit of a mad genius, like Baltar. Josh has a thing about strong women, too (though mostly personality-strong less than physically-strong.) In the end I think they both work pretty well.
Which couple would be more plausible to people from either principal's home culture?
Probably Kara/Fred, as both are human and good guys. Whereas Josh and Aeryn are both aliens to each other.
4. Your team is 3, 4 & 6.
Xander, River, and Jean Grey
The mission consists of a social challenge, a mental challenge and a physical challenge. Which team member do you assign to each challenge?
Xander for the social challenge. River for the mental challenge. And Jean for the physical challenge. We win! Hurrah!
5. 7 becomes 5's boss for a week in some plausible fashion. How's their working relationship?
Alexis becomes Josh's boss. Hahahahaha. Okay. Josh is good with authority when he respects the authority in question. Alexis Denisof is good with responsibility kind of... well. He's a good kisser, apparently. And he's a good actress. And other than that... I really don't know. I'm not thinking this would work out very well.
6. 1 finds him/her/itself inserted into 9's continuity. As far as anyone other than 1 or 9 is concerned, they've always been there. What role would 1 be presumed to have had in 9's story, and could they fit in without going wonky?
Richard Spier into Fred's continuity (so, the Angelverse). So, um, I guess Richard is a lawyer at W+H. Possibly during the Angel gang's stay there. Oh, this is so sad. I don't even want to think about it anymore.
7. 3 and 7 get three wishes. The catch is that they have to agree on all three wishes before they get the benefits of any of them. What three wishes would they make?
That's... Xander Harris and Alexis Densiof.
Okay, so Alexis is an actress and Xander is a character in the same continuity. Um. I'm not entirely sure what the hell Alexis wants. I've kind of ascribed various desires to him in various fics. So.
1) They wish that Joss would stop writing Xander's life so that Xander can get some peace and Alexis can get some.
2) They wish Anya back to life (because Alexis has no dog in this race).
3) They wish Joss would find a project that involves Alexis in some way and does not involve Xander. (Which is basically the same wish as #1).
8. 2 and 8 are brainwashed by a one-time artifact that works even on people immune to mind control to attack and kill 1. They keep their normal personality, skills and competence level, except any Code vs. Killing has been turned off. Can 1 survive? How?
Aeryn and Kara are brainwashed to kill Richard Spier. Can he survive?
No frelling way. See also, team even, awesome thereof.
9. 1, 6, 7 & 9 must help an orphanage full of small and depressed children have a merry Christmas. Who does what, knowing that at the very least the kids will be expecting a visit from Santa?
Richard Spier, Jean Grey, Alexis Denisof, and Fred Burkle.
So, Richard starts making lists -- of decorations to buy, carols to sing, age-appropriate presents. Alexis agrees to be Santa (he is an actress after all) so long as he doesn't have to do the rest of the planning. Fred designs a mechanism for lowering a fully lit Christmas tree through the orphanage roof, and Jean works the mind control.
10. 4 and 10 are challenged to circumnavigate the Earth in eighty days or less, using only forms of transportation invented before 1900. Can they do it, or will they be fatally distracted by sidequests or their own personality conflicts?
River and Joss. River's knowledge of terran transportation? Spotty. Joss? Less likely to research this and more likely to make dren up to suit his purposes. Less personality conflicts than the small fact that one of these people has ruined the other one's life, and she's psychic, and she knows it. I'm thinking this mission will end in disaster.

And the Joss/River scenario in #10 would be such a glorious train wreck . . . quite literally even, in all likelihood.
