Heh, yes, checking the big book o' BSC canon (just in case I made it up in Brett Ratner's mind as I did the thirty or forty books where Mary Anne and Logan aren't dating) confirms, though I feel that bit of characterization is really a conflation of Cher Horowitz's dad from Clueless (who was a scary lawyer) and Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird (who tended to talk to his children as if presenting a law brief); I can't recall Richard Spier ever actually presenting those traits.
