There are some great moments in this: The yes of Hermione's foolishness hangs between them, heavy as the heat, and I'm a witch, not a barbarian. Given what I know to be your thoughts on Gryffindors, "You wouldn't be Gryffindor's if you didn't think you could face the world's evil single-handed," seems both insightful and evenhanded. I can't speak about characterizations, but I like the pace and the uncertain moment-ness of this chapter, and the way that the cliffhanger-which-isn't really serves the seriality of it, if that makes any sense. It sort of leaves us both satisfied and unsatisfied at the same time in a really beautiful way.
