excursion into mediocrity

Yay slashfic! I'm checking out the common interests on LJ and am amused that while "bisexuality" is more popular than "slash," it's only by a couple hundred people... and both are more popular than "fanfiction," which also makes it onto the list. Rainbows are a couple below slash, and feminism a few above bisexuality.
As for specific fandoms, Harry Potter wins with almost 30,000 fans (and is number 30 on the overall list), while LotR has a mere 24,000. Anime, of course, is way up there, with only things like "computers" and "love" being more popular. Interestingly, anime is more popular than sex, which is deeply bothersome. The next listed popular fandoms (recognizable as fandoms, thus not including bands, artists, shows without heavily obsessed fan followings, or Monty Python) are:
Star Wars
Final Fantasy
Buffy The Vampire Slayer, and 4 down, Buffy. Added together, these would put Buffy in third place, trailing only HP and LotR)
Star Trek
Orlando Bloom (God help us all.)
Of course, none of my roommate's fandoms (and mine by extension) made it to the list, though I used to dabble in LotR when I was young and impressionable.
Computers are more popular than friends.
Cheese is more popular than sleep.
Sarcasm is more popular than intelligence.
Three seasons make it onto the list. In order of popularity, they are:
summer
winter
autumn.
No one Likes spring.
Porn is more popular than erotica.
