Watched "Picture if You Will" tonight and managed to avoid watching the trailer for PKW yet again.
[spoilers for PiYW, obviously, + most of the S2 arc, "Self-Inflicted Wounds," + possibly the J/A S4 arc. Oh, and the D/C S4 arc. Aw, frell, let's just say vague spoilers through "Bad Timing" again and be done with it]
So, let's see... structurally, this felt so refreshing, when compared to Stargate. Just, commercial breaks at nice places, and thinking that Chiana is dead, and thinking D'Argo died, and yeah. I mean, I know they don't. But still. SFX were kind of um... yeah. They were obviously playing around with the cameras, and stuff. It gets better, I think. "Scratch 'n' Sniff" has fun cinematography and stuff. This was just sort of... cheesy sci-fi bad. But fun.
Characters... God, Aeryn is closed-off compared to "Terra Firma" Aeryn! I mean, John asking her if she's always going to be this closed-off, keeping people at arm's length. Actually, I just noticed that given that "The Way We Weren't" is next week, with Aeryn!backstory and finding out wow, she does have a heart... but she was really cold this episode. She threatened to throw Rygel and Chiana off the ship and kind of meant it. Only, not really, since she cares about them, but...
S2 Aeryn is really closed-off, emotionally. She so does not want to admit that she cares about the crew of Moya, because she's afraid she's going to get hurt again... I know some people miss that in S4... but hey, people change. Aeryn has changed.
I loves me some D'Argo/Chiana. It's sad, really, how little fandom-love they get. 'Cos, okay, it's not teh_pretty... D'Argo will never be teh_sexx, but dammit, they are cute. And obviously doomed. I mean, even this early on in the S2 'ship, it's clear that it's going to fall apart, and it hasn't even started yet. This is totally one pairing that's not going to work until they both (especially Chiana) grow up a lot. But yay, they will! ♥ S4 Chi/D'Argo. Actually, this is well on it's way to becoming my actual OTP. I mean, even more than J/A.
It's the difference between Buffy/Angel and Willow/Oz. B/A is an Epic Romance, a Love That Must Not Be, the One True Love... blah. But Willow/Oz is just cute. Yeah, they have problems, (cough, infidelity, cough) and they aren't going to make it in the long-run, but they are cute, dammit. D'Argo is nothing like Oz, and Chiana is nothing like Willow (*snerk*) but I think I like the pairings in similar ways. Huh. Weird.
Anyhow, muchos Zhaan/John love. Muchos John/D'Argo love. Much love to the Farscape writers, who let the sap just hang out there and make me go "awwww!"
Chiana/Rygel. Theirloveissomercenary. And everyone going all guilty about Chiana, when they thought she was dead...
I had only seen this episode once, but seeing it now, and how it fits in with the rest of the S2 arc, it feels like a really important episode... just with the guilt and the death and Zhaan's sacrifice at the beginning of S3. It feels somehow like it all fits right. Like this is the emotional prequel to "Die Me, Dichotomy," when it really will be John's fault.
Maldus is such a fun villain. I like him a lot. Although he uses way too many Terra-isms. He's obviously been hanging around John too much. He has glowy vampire eyes. He is a vampire, which is kinda painful, but... oh well. He's fun. "Your mind is an open book to me. One with little words, and lots of pictures."
Observation: John says his Aunt Ruth tells the future using tea leaves. Why doesn't he mention his mom reading tarot cards? Does the Aunt Ruth thing come up again?
I really liked the Chiana/Rygel tag. I like them. They play off each other well. Chi throwing the crackers at him. :) Cuteness.
Lots of cuteness. Lots of friendship. Lots of 'ship, mostly Chi/D'Argo.
And I love Zhaan so frelling much. I think I like "That Old Black Magic" better for Zhaan vs. Maldus, but this was definitely... yes.
Final thought: Maldus/Sirius. Theirloveissotheirdesireforrevengesustainedthem. [their love is so their desire for revenge sustained them.]
Bedtime!
