Great big small box of bpal!

Bottle of Penitence.

12 imps I ordered.
4 frimps.

What to smell FIRST, friends?

Ok, first to sort out the frimps (free imps, which are delightful surprises).

One of them seems to be Blockbuster, which is a Twilight Alchemy Lab scent (the line intended for ritual use):
Used to open up options in your life, overcome obstacles, and create opportunities. This blend increases your potential for success, inspires creativity and quick thinking, and helps you to be more flexible, adaptable and open to change.

Which is fine, although not the ritual scent I would have chosen for myself at this moment in my life.

Also Mage from the RPG series, which I think was on my wishlist, Sheol, and Tamora.

OK THEN. What to smell first?

All right.

Miskatonic University.

I may have purchased 6 months of paid time on dreamwidth so I could upload a perfume icon and start using a perfume tag.

Under the cut, mostly for my records, all the perfumes I have tried to date

pretties! )

My favorite by far of all the things I've smelled is Penitence by BPAL. In some ways because I am a person of simple tastes. Incense is one of my favorite scents because it makes me think of church, and especially of anointing oils. Penitence is described as "a blend of pure, pious frankincense and graceful myrrh," and it does what it says on the tin.

Most of the oils I've tried smell sweet to me. Good sweet, mostly. Some are foody sweet, some are just weird-sweet, and I think my nose interprets "musk" as sweetness, since Neutral is a "pure skin musk" and it smells incredibly and weirdly sweet to me.

Penitence is a little sweet and a lot spicy. It's intense, and distinct, and it was immediately a comfort smell for me. I have taken to wearing it most nights falling asleep -- which is probably the right time for it, since it doesn't last particularly long on my skin (sadness!) but while it lasts it's incredibly joyful and pleasing and comforting and delicious (though not in a foody way -- I don't want to eat my skin; I just want to inhale it.

My first BPAL order was 6 imps (sample vials), including this one, and this is the one I upgraded to a bottle in my second order.

Last night killing time before meeting Elizabeth's mom, we ended up browsing the clearance racks outside The Harvard Bookstore (which has an enviable url).

Elizabeth bought porn; I bought Christian Worship, Corporate Worship in the Reformed Tradition and Word & Table: A Basic Pattern of Sunday Worship for United Methodists, which as I said, "is like porn for Aris."

++

When I got in the other night Elizabeth offered me a spot in the bed and I went, "... I need to crawl over you to be on MY side."

"Oh right. I forgot you had a side." ... "In a gen way."

Later, "Yes, you have a side. Cos, we're not like an old married couple at all."

"We're like an older married couple in that we don't have sex."

"Well, we don't have sex with each other."

"Like an old married couple."

Yes, I can see my bff giving me this look that says, really, you want more stress in your life?

But I would really like to be part of fandom again, so I am, very carefully, going to play Yuletide this year. I nommed BSC (duh), Dan Savage RPF (.... I really want fic where the tech-savvy at-risk youth take him to task on various stuff. Or basically anything involving tech-savvy at-risk youth being tech-savvy and awesome), and Jossverse RPF (though I'm less committed to that one) and may decide to request something different, depending.

And I will make the most conservative offer ever (for me. I tend to offer in the 60+ fandom range, so less than 10 would be super-conservative for me.)

I accomplished something super hard this morning, and I think the rest of the day will be devoted to watching tv and baking. Maybe I'll even watch tv that I already own rather than convince myself I need to buy new tv. (I will, though, I think, buy myself a quick breads recipe book, if I can find such a thing.)

Oh, flist (dwircle), it's the weekend! \o/

Other excellent things:

1. I came home* to two unexpected messages from people I love. :)

*apparently by this I mean "to the internet". ?

2. I got gas for the car just after the indicator light went on.

3. I bought a new bookcase and 4 frozen pizzas.

4. One of the nice lads playing American football in my apartment complex's parking lot carried bookcase from my car to the house because I asked for help :) *most outgoing*

5. I am up to The B♗shop at the Lake in my non-thorough Blackie Ryan reread. It's a British country home mystery! With Blackie! I'm pretty excited about it.

6. I bought Snuff last night. I'm looking forward to it.

7. Baaaaaby planet. (Okay, I just wanted to say that since I heard it on NPR.)

Today I went shopping with [livejournal.com profile] geekgirl4christ and got a swimsuit (yay! Also, I am incredibly blessed to have a body that's flattered by a traditional one-piece suit, and to have been spared some yucky indoctrination, because I found the process totally angst-free. I tried on three suits at the first store I went to, one style that didn't flatter at all and then 2 in the same style, different sizes, chose the bigger size [both fit okay, but my cleavage was less likely to fall out of the larger one] and bought it. Yay! Angst-free).

I also may have asked one of the shoppeople at Hot Topic if they carried Team Alice shirts. I haven't even read Twilight! Nor seen it! I know only by hearsay and fannish osmosis that I play for Team Alice!

In "My Home Is Fandom" news, Facebook won't let me list Stoneybrook CT as my hometown. :/ I grew up equally much in NJ and MA, and there are no cities of my adulthood that I am attached enough to to call home, but as Elizabeth aptly phrased it (recapitulating my reasoning), Stoneybrook/the BSC is the fandom of my childhood that I return to again and again for that childlike comfort of home.

Got a half dozenish BSC books at Half-Price books. Mmm, collection is growing!

I'm happily sleepy after a full and successful day. I keep making happy sleepy sounds to myself. :)

I have decided the best way to organize my BSC books is chronologically by publication date -- that is, with Super Specials and Mysteries mixed in where they fit in the main series timeline. And Little Sister books, too.

Why, other than to drive myself insaner?

So that I can make a complete (looping!) timeline of the series. This is one of my Major BSC Canon Projects. The other is making a spreadsheet of how attractive they all find each other in every chapter 2, to see if I can draw lines of desire using the power of SCIENCE.

I've separated my adult books from my good middle reader/young adult books:

([livejournal.com profile] fox1013's icon, that is)

The only problem with this?

+I am still buying into the artificial separation of quality literature like Little Women and formulaic crap like my horribly offensive crime-solving nun books adult and young adult and middle reader fiction?
+Despite having only half as much adult fiction, I still don't have room to shelve it?
+I don't know how to sort the YA stuff that doesn't have authors?
+It highlights the sad gaps in the series I am collecting?
+I totally forgot about the twenty+ SVH books I had hidden in the closet, so now I am not sure I have adequate shelving after all?
+There's still no way to hide the fact that the single largest category of books I own is BSC books.
+And I'm cataloging them according to my own geeky system
+and putting all the Paula Danziger books in front of all the Ann M. Martin books so that Snail Mail No More (and eventually, P.S., Longer Letter Later can live together?
+and calling this whole section of my bookshelves "Pollyanna."
+Meanwhile, on the adult side, I can see that my thorough-going devotion to mysteries, clergy and religious, crime-solving religious, and pedophilia is plainly on display. (Okay, I've only got Lolita and Tom Perotta's Little Children, plus various mysteries involving members of the Catholic church so... face meets desk.

I sold back a box of books to Half-Price books this afternoon. With the proceeds I bought 2 Little Sister books and a vegetarian cookbook.

One of my yardsale finds: Sammy Keyes and the Sisters of Mercy by Wenelin Van Draanen. Let's see. This book is:

+Part of a series
+of mysteries
+for kids
+and has bonus surprise nuns.

\o/

(Ooh, and I have just realized that Sammy is a girl! EVEN BETTER!)

Wee femslash porn battle at [livejournal.com profile] femmeslash.

I really wish more of you lived around here and could come over and have a slumber party. :(

BSC AU ideas that I have had in the past year:
+BSC Regency Romance AU (The Young Governesses series). I have titles for the first four books! A Dangerous Habit, The Bradford Phantom, Chosen Vices and Secret Salvation.
+BSC convent AU. Because Kristy Thomas was born to be a Mother Superior.

I'm reading the Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld and writing BtVS crossovers in my head. Maybe someday I will actually write fanfic on paper again.

Spent most of my afternoon at bookstores. Read various X-Men titles collected in big, shiny books of expensiveness.

Astonishing is love. But then, I'm that kind of Joss Whedon fangirl, so no one is surprised. Kitty Pryde! Emma Frost! Beast! Colossus! Joss!

Then I tried to read House of M, but found myself hopelessly confused because I couldn't recognize any of the non-X-men characters except, like, Spiderman. And I skimmed large portions of Plot and Blowing Stuff Up, and I couldn't really figure out which characters were which. (But I really loved the set-up at the beginning, for what it's worth.

And then I settled down to read Ultimate and that was okay, because it started all over again from the beginning. And Jean! Bobby Drake! Colossus again! Hurrah!

Actually purchased in lieu of crazy-expensive comics: two new variety puzzle books.

ETA: There's this icon floating around with a picture of Joss with the text "Joss said, 'look at this thing I made!' and I said, 'Fine, I'm just your slave." But I misread it "Joss said, 'Look at this thing I made!' and I said, 'Fine, I'll BE your slave.'" I totally need that icon right now. *SIGH*

1. [livejournal.com profile] femslash_minis is about to become my new obsession. A new Jossverse femslash ficathon every week. *cannot resist!*

2. Guess what I own that I didn't twenty-four hours ago? Due South S1 DVDs! *bounces madly* I've never so much as seen an episode, so this should be interesting!

3. Title: "What Is This Thing?"
Fandom: Buffy: the Vampire Slayer
Pairing: Willow/Xander
Other Pairings: Willow/Oz, Willow/Tara, Willow/Kennedy and Xander/Anya mentioned as per canon
Rating: PG-13
Spoilers/Timeline: post-"Chosen," vague refs to S5 AtS (and I do mean *vague*)
Disclaimer: Not mine, never will be.
Notes: for [livejournal.com profile] invisionary who requested these lyrics (behind the cut) and W/X, one or two years post-"Chosen," in my Chinese take-out menu fic-on-demand.

Wow. This morning's episode of The Sentinel was a brain-breaker. First we have Rebecca Rigg(s) (fucking Gray'za) guest starring as the bimbo of the week. And then there's Elisabeth Rosen (bloody Jennifer Hailey) playing a sixteen year old druggie who throws herself off a bridge.

Not to mention that the main special effect reminds me quite strongly and unrelentingly of what it looks like when someone's being ribboned.

I also watched "Sandovall's Run," an episode of Earth: Final Conflict. I ♥ it so much.

It was a good morning. Two hours of sci-fi, hot chocolate, and I meandered up to the bookstore to buy decongestant, tissues, and chapstick. I'm good to go. My congestion seems to have moved from my nose to my throat, which hopefully is a good thing and doesn't mean I'm coming down with bronchitis like I did last year.

I have finished all my homework for today, sort of, though I did a sort of half-ass job of it, and I really cannot write a short story under time pressure. I should have started sooner, and I shouldn't have decided to reward myself with a phone call for finishing. Bad ideas all around. *sighs*

Going to reread the story, maybe do a quick edit on it, and then write my last journal entry for this week for Writing. That class will kick my ass if I don't take it seriously.

I went to the Village today. AwRIGHT! HellYEAH! Can we hear it for the pretty rainbowy stuff? Honestly, going go P-town or the Castro or the Village makes me feel like I don't own enough sweatshop produced rainbow stickers and must buy more, immediately, or my queerness will leak out my ears or something.

Er, yeah. So in Oscar Wilde books, I was browsing, and pulled out this book, and... My Dearest Holmes, I think it was called. I looked at for all of two seconds before I realized what it was...

published Holmes/Watson slash.

And my mom was right there so I go "you HAVE to buy this for me." So she did. And I literally bounced for the next two hours, 'cause I'm getting Holmeslash for Christmas. From my mom. And yeah, I know it's probably not such a good idea for my parents to know exactly what kind of stuff I read on the internet, but... dude. H/W slash that I haven't already read five thousand times for CHRISTMAS. Under the tree, Christmas morning kinda Christmas.

Real life, meet fandom. Fandom, meet real life.

*bounces*

And I found exactly what I was looking for, and... I'm done Christmas shopping. Hurrah! Everyone on my list (all... four of them) will be getting nice shiny Christmas presents. As will my [livejournal.com profile] stargate_santa person, provided I find the CD on which I placed the icons I made before break.

STRAIGHT A'S! This semester is officially done! All grades are finally in. Five A's. Five beautiful, beautiful solid, unchanging A's. Word. I rule.

And this site contains the most prettiness I've seen in... weeks! And amusingness. And... oh, just go. Look at pictures. Not sure how spoilerish it is, definately didn't read the TR segments, but the MS segments are safe and hilarious. Yum. Cream sweater. Yep. Worth a look. Or several.

And that, my friends, is all she wrote.
